One thing I wanna note about our onboarding, it's been very word of mouth, meaning active onboarders who weren't many, mainly onboarded people they knew somewhat and could trust. Sure there's some bad apples everywhere, but this helped us with giving them good votes on their intro posts cause we knew they had gone through webinars, p2p talks/discussions and often even guides to ensure newcomers knew how hive works and what isn't accepted here as a user. This lead to a lot of users who got invited inviting other users they knew through the same onboarders. This meant concentration in few areas of cities of different countries naturally but it also meant better retention cause someone knew someone always and they had an easy time subscribing to communities of their interests and following people they may somewhat know or be friends with on Facebook for instance.
I'm hoping to be able to bring this back soon, hopefully with a fresh onboarding tool since hiveonboard died out and with some fresh onboarders and returning ones looking to bring people in and earn some rewards for their time and efforts.
Will read the rest of the post in the morning.
You offboarded my friends.
well thats the problem with the social part of hive, someone can fuck with fun and you cant do nothing about it.
On the other hand, your friends have accounts and if they want they would be able to transact. The reward part of hive is gay anyway.
and the " upvote abuse" or how they name it does never the same damage as DAO inflation. Also 15% HBD brings also more money passive. The logic behind upvote something the " content police" dont like is retarded from every aspect.
People should do what they want as long they dont hurt other users or post really harmful content ( drain shit, hack shit, and really abusive content everyone would agree).
Beyond that if friends jerk each other with 1 cent like " well buddy i did read it - like" thats IMo 100% ok.
since thats how the social media logic works. Upvote = like and likes are used to show the other " i did read it".
If there is a "reaction button" that does the same thats called like, i might change my opinion about it a bit :D
But that is how some accounts with 100k or 500k got bullied off, because of this. Retarded
Your reply is upvoted by @topcomment; a manual curation service that rewards meaningful and engaging comments.
Well i think reward new people is not the core ( Can be good and can make sense), its more about let them have fun with their community.
Like Facebook group has 20000 people, 1% comes to hive and post instead here. It would be enough to support the community a bit and not laser on some users of them. I know easier said as done.
But imagine less general topics like " food, pictures" and more like " gaming, hardware, prototypes, building". Those have already a deeper connection to tech + would use hive beyond the " we post shit" and might use it for payments to each other.
Now offtopic, instead of rally cars, help little to medium gamer youtube / twitch stream with " hive donations" via upvotes can be a thing.
They get $, promoting hive to people that already are more likely to be degen.
In case you would be interested in something like that, i could help you in a reach out vibe coded " first connector". Like full auto outreach to little to medium social media people ( like gaming). 1000x better the wast marketing from DAO. 100% track able and if not works, easy to stop.
