Under recommendation of @jcrodriguez and @maxjoy in my previous post, reviewing I Origins (2014), I decided to watch an earlier film by the same director, Mike Cahil, and I really liked this film!

Another Earth is one of those not so well known movies that you don't regret to see, if you like this kind of movies. The plot is simple: a new planet Earth has appeared in space and begins to approach ours, to the point that it can be seen with the naked eye in the sky. Everyone is shocked, not only because of the planet itself, but also because there seems to be a copy, a "version 2.0" of ourselves.
Another Earth es una de esas películas no tan conocidas que no te arrepientes de ver, si es que te gustan este tipo de películas. El argumento es simple: un nuevo planeta Tierra ha aparecido en el espacio y empieza a acercarse al nuestro, al punto de que se llega a ver a simple vista en el cielo. Todos están consternados, no solo por el planeta en sí sino porque allí parece haber una copia, una "versión 2.0" de nosotros mismos.
And if you like this kind of movies, you will surely be interested in the existential or spiritual message that this one leaves. If you are one of those who like more action, no, there won't be a war or violent contact between both worlds. This film is very similar to I Origins in terms of what it wants to transmit, although perhaps under other nuances.
Who hasn't thought about the possibility of parallel worlds existing? The appearance of a world where there is someone who is just like you, but who may have made different decisions is something that mystics, philosophers and physicists who study quantum physics have always wondered about. In Another Earth, the theme goes a bit this way.
Y si te gustan este tipo de películas, seguramente te interesará el mensaje existencial o espiritual que esta deja. Si eres de los que gusta más de la acción, no, no habrá una guerra o contacto violento entre ambos mundos. Esta película es muy similar a I Origins en cuanto a lo que quiere transmitir, aunque quizás bajo otros matices.
¿Quién no ha pensado en la posibilidad de que existan mundos paralelos? La aparición de un mundo donde hay alguien que es igual a ti, pero que quizás haya tomado otras decisiones distintas es algo que tanto místicos, filósofos como físicos que estudian la cuántica se han planteado siempre. En Another Earth, la temática va un poco por aquí.
The main character in this film is the same actress from I Origins, who was the scientist. The other main character also appeared at the end of I Origins. You can tell they are or were the same crew on both films and this one didn't exactly have a high budget, but in both films they did an excellent job.
A person who commits a terrible act, which also harms other people's lives, has practically the obligation to "correct" his past actions. Whether through Law and justice, or if we get mystical, with "Karma", past mistakes leave some consequence. And the way to make amends for them can come in an infinite number of ways. Rhoda Williams, recklessly takes other people's lives, while being careless behind the wheel of a car.
La protagonista de esta película es la misma actriz de I Origins, quien fuera la científica. El otro personaje principal apareció también al final de I Origins. Se nota que son o fueron el mismo equipo de trabajo en ambas películas y que esta no tenía precisamente un presupuesto alto, pero en ambas películas hicieron un excelente trabajo.
Una persona que comete un acto terrible, que incluso perjudica la vida de otras personas, tiene prácticamente la obligación de "corregir" sus acciones pasadas. Ya sea mediante la Ley y justicia, o si nos ponemos místicos, con el "Karma", los errores pasados dejan alguna consecuencia. Y la manera de enmendarlos puede darse de infinitas maneras. Rhoda Williams, se lleva imprudentemente la vida de otras personas, mientras se descuida al volante del auto.

Y no parece ser coincidencia que esto haya ocurrido justo cuando se hacía el anuncio de la aparición de un planeta en el cielo, similar al nuestro. Aquí hay un aspecto de Rhoda que la lleva a esta situación, ella es joven e inmadura, y esto le pasa factura.
A pesar de ser una estudiante universitaria con un futuro prometedor, nada de esto sirve de nada, como suele decirse, sin ética o moral en el ser humano. A pesar de cumplir su sentencia en prisión, injusto o no, tendrá que conformarse con cualquier trabajo que se le acepte, casi al margen de la sociedad. ¿Qué debe hacer para volver ser aceptada en la sociedad, "arreglar" su error?
El otro planeta podría verse como un mundo paralelo, donde nuestras acciones allí fueron diferentes, y quizás mejores. Y aquí es donde surge la pregunta en ella: ¿Allí estarán vivas las personas que no están en este mundo por mi culpa? Su trabajo será arreglar las cosas, de alguna manera u otra.
And in the process of accidentally taking other people's lives, someone close to those people is emotionally shattered. Some people don't react well to grief, and they lose themselves, their life deteriorates. This is where John Burroughs, a musician grieving the loss of loved ones, comes in.
Rhoda, perhaps accidentally, does what John Burroughs needs to help him through his grief, even to the point of hiding who she really is. But is this relevant from a "transcendental" point of view? If we were able to override the resentment or hatred towards the one responsible for your suffering, could the world be a better place...? Rhoda is fully aware that she must make amends for her mistakes, and John needs someone to help him move forward.
Y en el proceso de quitarle la vida accidentalmente a otras personas, alguien cercano a esas persones queda destrozado emocionalmente. Algunas personas no reaccionan bien al duelo, y se pierden, su vida se deteriora. Aquí es donde entra John Burroughs, un músico afligido por la pérdida de seres queridos.
Rhoda, quizás de manera accidental, hace lo que John Burroughs necesita para ayudarlo a salir de su duelo, hasta el punto de ocultarle quien es realmente. Y es que él nunca supo quien fue el culpable de la pérdida de sus familiares ¿Pero eso esto relevante desde el punto de vista "trascendental"? ¿Si lográramos anular el resentimiento u odio al culpable de tu sufrimiento podría ser mejor el mundo...? Rhoda es totalmente consciente de que debe enmendar sus errores, y Jhon necesita de alguien que le ayude a salir adelante.
And what does "the other Earth" have to do with all this? From my point of view, the other Earth is nothing more than a metaphor of what the world would be like when we "put our feet on the ground". Rhoda's job would be to help John Burroughs grow up and make him appreciate what he has, his family. Perhaps the real meaning of the film is that John is distanced from his family, distracted by other things, and Rhoda is his "teacher" who teaches him what can happen if he continues on that path (the film would be what happens in John's mind, while the "other Earth" is the real world, where his family awaits him...).
Or maybe not, the film raises many things and an open ending that gives rise to many theories. What is certain is that Rhoda somehow manages to find inner peace or harmony by giving John a relief to his "soul". I noticed two curious things in the movie: Had the blind man already met his "version 2.0" and in order not to see himself anymore he decided to remove his eyes...? How did they authorize John to go to space when he was sick...? It's quite a curious movie.
¿Y qué tiene que ver "la otra Tierra" en todo esto? desde mi óptica, la otra Tierra no es más que una metáfora de lo que sería el mundo cuando "ponemos los pies en la Tierra". El trabajo de Rhoda, sería el de ayudar a John Burroughs a madurar y hacerle valorar a lo que tiene, a su familia. Quizás el verdadero significado de la película es que Jhon se aleja de su familia, por distraerse en otras cosas, y Rhoda es su "maestra" quien le enseña lo que puede pasar si continúa por ese camino (la película sería lo que sucede en la mente de Jhon, mientras la "otra Tierra" es el mundo real, donde su familia le espera...).
O quizás no, la película plantea muchas cosas y un final abierto que da lugar a muchas teorías. Lo cierto es que Rhoda logra de alguna manera encontrar paz interior o armonía al darle a Jhon un alivio a su "alma". Noté dos cosas curiosas en la película ¿El señor ciego ya había conocido a su "versión 2.0" y para no verse más decidió quitarse los ojos...? ¿Cómo autorizaron a Jhon para ir al espacio estando enfermo...? Es una película bastente curiosa.
In this way, I think this film reflects two realities, one in our mind, so to speak, and another in the physical world, and when one is detached from the other is that we are doing something wrong. But when both realities are in harmony everything is in order.
This is a film that gives you some room to think, it has certain transcendental messages. It is one of those movies that is worth seeing, as I said before, if you like these topics. Personally, I would give it a rating of 8/10.

De esta manera, creo que esta película refleja dos realidades, una en nuestra mente, por decirlo de alguna manera, y otra en el mundo físico, y cuando una se despega de la otra es que algo estamos haciendo mal. Pero cuando ambas realidades están en armonía todo va en orden.
Esta es una película que da para pensar un poco, tiene ciertos mensajes trascendentales. Es una de esas películas que vale la pena ver, como dije anteriormente, si te gustan estos temas. Personalmente, le daría una calificación de 8/10.

No sabía de esta película, tiene un tema interesante, en lo particular me agrada este tipo de historias existenciales. Le diste una calificación alta y es recomendada por otros user que bien.

Que bueno que pudiste verla y te agrado la película. Para mi fue una agradable sorpresa cuando la vi. Quizás el ritmo del film no la hace digerible para todo el publico, pero para los que gustan este tipo de historias es un buen film que merece la pena ser recomendado y visto. Una pequeña película sin alto presupuesto pero que tiene un mensaje profundo y mas valioso que cualquier super producción de Hollywood.
Saludos @jcrodriguez pues sí, no es recomendable si buscas acción o ciencia ficción como tal, y una crítica que vi por ahí decía que la promocionaron como ciencia ficción pero no es así. Pero sin duda un buen trabajo para poco presupuesto!
Me agrada esta temática, esas películas que te hacen no pestañear para intentar comprender cada detalle, me llamó mucho la atención leer que los directores de esta película sea los mismos de I Origins, una película que aún no veo pero que me llama mucho la atención, pues he visto diversas recomendaciones, ahora son 2 que tengo al pendiente, porque con esta me dejaste intrigado, usas alguna página en específico para verlas? yo uso normalmente cinecalidad pero allí no están ninguna, si tienes una web en donde estén te lo agradecería un montón, saludos hermano, excelente trabajo, feliz y bendecido día. 🎬
