"A New Beginning"

in #artzone8 years ago

The original of this one was the first painting I did in 2013, when I still lived in Costa Rica. I painted it right after I got back from a trip to Mexico, and a lot of the colors are inspired by the art and stucco and decorative tiles common in the architecture in Mexico. Lots of pink coral colors, blues and greens, yellows and oranges.

Since it was the first painting of a new year, I went with the biggest square canvas I could get at the local art store. In Costa Rica they use the metric system, so that was 80 x 80cm, which works out just shy of 33 x 33 inches. It took me about 60 hours to paint, over the course of a week. Now a painting this size would take me more than twice as long because I add a lot more details!
