Greetings,
In this audio recording/podcast I talk about two of the most impactful videos I watched this year, especially from the point of view of a social media content creator. In summary, it’s to do with how they employ highly scientific, physiological and algorithmic AI, to keep us hooked, siphon all our data and monetise us. All the while, they are inducing mental health issue in their users, especially the younger and more impressionable ones. I mention how we, the Web 3.0 people, have a solution for this entire thing. As you would expect, however, it doesn’t even get a single sentence in the entire documentary.

Wow… “The AI is programming us”. Super interesting concept, and we can see why conspiracy theorists are such a phenomenon today. People feel out of control.
Content creators do have a very different set of challenges today. I’m glad that as a society we are coming to awareness about the mental health challenges that have emerged, stemming from the addictive, algorithm driven nature of social media. I hope that platforms take responsibility for their role and find ways to combat it. They must be held accountable. Interesting hypothesis — that content creators are also victims of AI and social content algorithms.
We are all victims of this stuff. We've been recruited, unwittingly, and annexed as part of the AI ourselves. We do it's bidding when we create those clickbait titles and thumbnails and use all those viewer retention tricks.
The irony is, after watching the documentary on Netflix, their AI algo also tried to keep me on Netflix by serving up some very enticing similar stuff. I needed will power to turn the thing off 😂
Will power is sorely lacking in the human subject. We are sort of genetically predisposed to binge watching, I think. Meanwhile, we also love a feeling of control, and feel disturbed when we think someone or some thing is in the driver’s seat of our lives and choices. So it’s no wonder that mental health is suffering and we are an increasingly cranky bunch!
