Well, the A's fell to the Astros in pretty uneventful fashion yesterday. After the team averaged 5.4 runs a game in the previous five contests, the offense had an off day during the 5-1 loss. Henry Bolte did go 3 for 4, and Brent Rooker hit his 9th homer, so that's not bad. Zack Gelof recorded the A's only other hit of the game. Gelof has been a lot more consistent lately which is a good sign.
Today, the A's send out another rookie to make his MLB debut in starting pitcher Kade Morris! Morris has a diverse arsenal of pitches it seems, but has not been all that excellent in Triple-A. He has a 4.45 ERA this season but it's always worth seeing if a player can match the talent level around them and compete! With the A's taking hits in their rotation, this isn't a terrible idea to give a prospect a shot.
The A's are now 30-33, and the Astros are 29-36. This series is an opportunity for both teams in the fairly tightly packed AL West. The Mariners are in first place with a 34-31 record, the Rangers are in second at 31-32. The only team really out of it at the moment are the 24-40 Angels.
By the game's end today, the A's will be just about 40% through their season! That's actually kind of shocking. Time is wild man. Baseball's long season really makes you think about life I swear.
