RE: Shopping for Real Estate: Financial Acumen or Dumb Luck?

Your father was a mesothelioma victim. I'm so sorry. You see how pollution enters into it? I know mesothelioma is usually from occupational exposure, but there are cancer clusters associated with certain residential areas. All of Long Island is essentially a cancer cluster and the Fifth Ward in Houston is another. Both clusters have suspicious associations with pollutants.

Funny about juggling houses...sale and purchase to make it work. We had the contract for our old house on November 9, 2023 and the contract for our new house on November 15 of the same year. One week in a hotel that accepted pets was the bridge.

It was a scary time for me. My husband didn't want to get involved (!!) except for giving a nod (by looking at a picture) for the final choice, so I did the lawyers and all. It was so stressful that I had to change the ringtone on my phone after that. The ringtone became a stress trigger :))

I'm happy it all worked out for you. From what you've written in the past, your father would be so pleased that his tragedy helped you to realize your dream. Life is very strange sometimes.

Cancer clusters are terrifying. Definitely something to look into. They say asbestos disease will be around for at least another 100 years as there is still asbestos around in the form of housing materials. Dad's was occupational - he was a draftsman and he liked to be the one getting outdoors on building sites and measuring up. Often, buildings in states of demolition or with asbestos being cut etc. Awful way to go. And that was after suffering a cancer from.chemicals from his tour in Vietnam. War and industry. Couldn't make you sadder and madder, right? The little people cop the horror. It was lucky that both don't show up til later in life so he had a full, good life til around 69 years old. Immunotherapy cured him off the war cancer and a year later mesothelioma swept in.

There's been absolutely no inkling of clusters near us, we would have known, so we didn't even factor that in. I think Australia might be a little better off in that regard, largely anyway.

I hear you on the ring tone PTSD. It's so anxiety inducing. I could never play poker or be a financial trader, I'd fair have a heart attack.

Still, don't you think that if you didn't have the stress, you wouldn't feel as content/happy in the end? Like we need the hardship to appreciate the end result. Phew.

Life is indeed strange. He would have been very happy for us, I know. I'm eternally grateful to both him and Mum.
