In the absence of transcendent values or spiritual purpose, government and politics fill that void, turning protest into a form of secularized worship. The protests become revival meetings where the only "sacrifice" demanded is the demonization and destruction of political enemies, much like a pagan ritual rooted in blood guilt and human sacrifice.
