Ever heard the saying "to assume makes an ass out of you and me". As crude as that may come across, I found myself thinking that today when I was thinking about how assumptions sometimes get in the way.
I'm sure we've all been in situations where we have heard things about someone before we've met them and lets face it, sometimes those things are not always kind.
I was speaking to one of my connections today and we briefly spoke about this and I loved her approach to these situations. She said to me, I start every encounter with a clean slate.
And I think this is a great approach to have. The business world can sometimes be a bit cut throat, there is healthy competition and then the not so healthy competition and in some instances unkind things can be said or spread.
But then it is up to us to make our own judgements but only after we have given the benefit of the doubt, started with that clean slate. I'm not saying not to be wary because you need to be street smart, but I am saying to look for the best in others instead of assuming the worst.
Annnd that's my little bit of positivity today! Hope my American friends all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that all my other connections overseas and in AUS have a great weekend! :)
