Despertando a Elpis
Los especialistas técnicos Daniels, Simpson y Guerra, entraron por el ducto y flotaron hasta la entrada del eje central de la nave, donde un inactivo funicular los aguardaba. Iluminaron el canal de un lado a otro, viendo sólo un extenso túnel oscuro, usando las agarraderas del funicular, se impulsaron y flotaron hasta llegar a la entrada del ducto del primer anillo, por el que se deslizaron hasta llegar al pasillo interno, de lo que fue el área de operaciones de la descomunal nave.
Avanzaron hasta el puente de la nave y de ahí por el ducto que conducía al bloque central, donde se encontraba el núcleo de la IA, en el cual sólo un único panel se mantenía activo, en modo de suspensión, Jorge Daniels se sentó frente a él, se sujetó con las piernas y luego lo activo, bajo la mirada de Simpson y Guerra, que permanecieron tras él sujetos a dos agarraderas situadas en la mampara.
El viejo panel encendió la pantalla y tras unos pocos segundos, la línea de comandos aguardaba por instrucciones, Daniels desplegó en el proyector de su casco un manual de operaciones del antiguo sistema de la Perseo, esperando que le sirviera para interactuar con el obsoleto sistema operativo y tras introducir algunos comandos una voz se escucho por el parlante de sus comunicadores, sintonizados con la antigua frecuencia de la nave.
―Saludos, soy SÓCRATES, la IA de control de la nave generacional Elpis, por favor indique su requerimiento ―dijo la sintetizada y parca voz, que fue traducida del antiguo idioma terrestre, por el intérprete de las computadoras de los trajes de los especialistas.
― SÓCRATES, te habla el especialista técnico Daniels de la Fragata Ícaro, de la quinta flota asentada en Atlas, pido autorización para reactivar tus sistemas y reanudar las operaciones de la Elpis ―dijo el joven soldado.
―Desconozco la denominación de su nave, flota y asentamiento, pero lo identifico como un humano, así que he de asumir que las naves de colonización lograron su cometido ―dijo SÓCRATES.
―Somos descendientes de la Perseo, una de las naves colonizadoras ―respondió Daniels.

Horas más tarde, tras conectar la nueva batería y el reactor, el primer y segundo anillos, estaban nuevamente en rotación, ganando velocidad para restituir el valor normal de la gravedad.
