Travellin' Da U. P., Eh Episode 4, watching the waves come in

in #travel8 years ago (edited)

Hello, steemians, and welcome to my page, eh!

For today's video, I'd like to show you some waves on the south shore of Lake Superior. We took a day trip to Presque Isle on the Lake Superior shore of Upper Michigan at Marquette, MI. The weather report had been predicting winds coming from the north across the lake at 17 to 18 miles per hour and pushing up 4-5 foot waves where the wind reached the shore. 4-5 foot waves aren't the biggest that Lake Superior churns up, but the really big waves mostly occur in late fall, as the song says, "the gales of November".
Still, it's pretty impressive watching the waves come in at this time of year when the wind chill won't freeze you solid.
Of course, these waves aren't much when compared to the big ocean waves, but you have to be near the ocean to see those...
This video is about 7 and a half minutes long, and the audio is pretty loud between the wave noise and the wind noise, I haven't found a way to put a wind sock on the mic hole on the camera yet because of the way the camera is designed.

I hope you enjoy the video!

Here's a couple of pictures from the trip.
The ore boat. I believe this boat hauled a load of coal to Marquette for the power plant that's next to the ore dock, and was taking on a load of iron ore taconite for the return trip.

This is the breakwater that protects the ore dock and harbor from the big waves.
