Hello, steemians, and welcome to my page, eh!
Saturday was the local airshow here in town, called Ford Airport Day. This is an annual event that happens at the local airport, sponsored by the local chapter of the EAA. There's always a few vintage military planes that show up for the event, and there's also a small car show that happens at this event.
For this post, I'll show you some of the planes that showed up for the show. The star of this year's show was a 1944 vintage B-25J Mitchell medium bomber. These were used in WW2, and many of them were converted to transport duty after the war, which is why there are still a number of them in flying condition. This one was giving rides, if you could afford it. This particular plane is based in St Paul, Minnesota.
The pilot and copilot were preparing for the next flight here.
Several other planes showed up from other places for the day. This is a P-51 mustang.
this plane was preparing to leave shortly after we got to the airshow.
The other plane that was with the P-51 was a Grumman TBM Avenger, a WW2 Navy torpedo plane.
There was also an AT-6 flight trainer plane parked at the show. This one may be locally owned, it seems to be at the airshow every year.
There was 1 more airplane at the show that I thought was quite interesting. This little plane was built by Piper in 1951 for use in the Korean war as a spotter plane. These planes were also used all through the Viet Nam war as a spotter plane.
There were also a fair amount of small civilian planes at the show. Several of them were giving rides to the local kids as part of the show. This is an annual event that I always try to catch, it makes for an enjoyable afternoon.
For part 2 of this series, I'll show you some of the old cars that were at the show.
I took some video of the B-25 starting it's motors and leaving the parking area to head to the runway for one of the passenger flights for the day. This plane can fit a maximum of 6 passengers and a flight crew of 3 for these rides. I'll post the video once I get it edited and rendered, probably in the next few days.
That's all I have for this post, I hope you found it interesting!
Thanks for stopping by my page and checking out my post, eh!
this is really awesome!!
Thank you!
This is what air shows looked like when i was a kid.
That was a long time ago.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm 63 right now...
The only thing you don't see anymore is some guy saying i flew one of these over Berlin or Nagasaki.
Yeah, the guys who flew over Viet Nam are getting pretty old now, the WW2 pilots have almost all passed on now days.
