Hello, steemians, and welcome to my page, eh!
We haven't had any rain in a couple of weeks now, so I've had to water the garden every couple of days now for a couple of weeks. I used up all of my stored rain water fairly quickly and had to resort to using city water to keep up with the watering. I decided to take one of my large IBC containers down to the local boat landing on the river to get water for the garden. The IBC cube that I have holds about 220 gallons of water when it's full, but my trailer won't handle that much weight, so I knew I would have to make several trips to the river.
I loaded the IBC into my trailer and strapped it tight to the front so that it wouldn't shift around. Then I loaded up the rest of the stuff necessary to pump the water into the cube from the river. I use a regular sump pump and power it with an inverter hooked up to a deep cycle battery.
Here we are, ready to go.
Parked at the boat landing, ready to pump in the water for the first trip.
The tank is starting to fill up now. This takes a while because the sump pump has a fairly slow flow rate.
I put the sump pump into a bucket that has a screen bottom set about an inch or so up from the bottom of the bucket. That keeps most of the debris out of the sump pump.
Here's the power supply for the sump pump.
The tank is about as full as I wanted it to be to keep the trailer springs from bottoming out.
Back at the house, we pump the water out of the tank in the trailer and into my storage tank in the corner of the garden. For pumping the water at the house, I used an extension cord from the house to save battery power.
The area where the boat landing is located is a really nice area. It's on the back waters of the river that's backed up by one of the local power dams. This picture was taken on my third trip to the river. All told, I think we hauled about 350 gallons of water with 3 trips.
And of course, the obligatory picture of me at the boat landing.
We're probably going to have to do another water run again soon, it's surprising how much water you can use when you have to irrigate a big garden.
Well, that's all I have for this post, I hope you found it interesting!
