Hello, steemians! Welcome to my page, eh!
It's been about 4 months since the last time I wrote about this little tube powered guitar amplifier that I built.
I've been using it a bit for practicing, but I haven't been satisfied with the sound of it. It just seemed like it didn't have enough drive at loud volume. It didn't have much distortion when you turned it up loud. I decided to modify the preamp circuits to give the amp more drive, a process known as "hotrodding" the amp. This is a simple matter of changing several parts in the preamp circuits to give the preamp tube more drive. The original preamp circuit is a classic Fender amp like design, hotrodding the amp gives it a bit more of a Marshall amp like design.
I decided that as long as I was doing the work, I might as well make a video about the process. I put the video on youtube and linked it on my Patreon page a couple of days ago. Here's the link to the youtube video if you would like to watch it.
I tested the amp after I got the work done, and it made a big difference in the way the amp sounds. It definitely distorts easier not, perhaps a bit too easy, especially with the hot pickup in my guitar. I made a video of testing the amplifier which I will post in my next post. I may have to do another modification of the amp, it seems to have too much treble for me now. That is a subject for another post.
That's all I have for this post, I hope you found it interesting!
