Muslims to Ex-Muslims- You Were Never Really a Muslim

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

I met with a Muslim at Speakers' Corner in London who, like many other Muslims, suggests that ex-Muslim were not really Muslim to begin with, or at least they didn't take it seriously. The clip starts with me, giving you some context followed by my discussion with the Muslim. Let me know what you think.

It's interesting that he was wearing a t-shirt with Nike on it.
What can I say, dogmatism is like that. It applies to all ways of life. Encyclopedic knowledge can be used to discriminate true members from pretenders.
Even in academia, that is a common practice to allegedly separate a good teacher from a bad one.
Like you, I think I became more knowledgeable of the religion I was born into when I decided to stop practicing and believing.
I attended all Catholic ceremonies because I was taken by some adult, not because I was driven by the power of the Word.
I never read the Bible while I was a practicing Catholic and I am sure most Christians have not done it. I have read it in its entirety now several times and approach it with the rigor you apply to any other text.
It does not stand scrutiny.
If being a Christian were determine by your knowledge of the bible, the whole religion would be constituted by only ordained members of the different churches and a few honorable exceptions.

Well, he's in direct contradiction with most Islamic scholars who state that "everybody is a muslim by nature - born muslim".. and then you lose your way. That is why there are no muslim "converts" but rather "reverts". That's what Islamic scholars would argue.

You should have dropped that point on him

Everyone can profess the religion of their parents, their nation. But there is no religion that preaches the extermination of the others.
This is not a religion but a genocide. There are many examples in human history.
