Jeremy Clarkson: "God Didn't Want People to Live in Australia" 😯

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Jeremy Clarkson has come under fire for a column in The Sun in which he blamed the
Australian bushfires on religion, writing "God didn't want people to live in Australia." "Plainly,
God is embarrassed. Because he's decided to set fire to it," wrote the 59-year-old. In the
controversial article, Clarkson stated that Australians should "come home" because "Australia isn't meant for human habitation" due to "its stupid dangerous creatures" and current bushfire crisis.

Sort:

Clarkson thrives on controversy. He loves it when people get upset about what he writes, but I doubt he actually believes much of it. I have no idea if he believes in a god, but the poor deity seems to get the blame for all sorts of natural disasters that are described as a punishment on gays, unbelievers and various other demographics.

I expect he will enjoy you featuring him. He does not need the publicity.

That sounds like publicity fishing. If it weren't so painful, it would be funny.

It would not be very productive to try to argue whether a loving god would cause havoc of this maginitude, or whether, as Mark Twain would put it, he was just being his usual "irascible, vindictive, fierce, and ever fickle and changeful master".
I do not think Clarkson's god did not want Australia to be inhabited. I got to this conclusion via twain. That God was "meted to the scale of the Bible's universe" where Australia, like America, did not exist. He could not care less if he knew it did, anyway. He was too busy "superintending the minute domestic affairs of a small coterie of viscious (and truculent nomads)".

Honestly I don't know the original reason for the Australian bush fire, I'm sure there must be a scientific explanation to why it's happening and how it can be stopped I do believe God has nothing to do with this, people have been living fine in Australia in the past and this isn't simply religious I believe a solution will be found soon

There’s a number of reasons for the fires, however you’re correct that a god has nothing to do with it given the distinct lack of any real god. Gods are human inventions after all.

The bush fires are believed to be caused by a combination of a warming planet, which has caused more intense and longer summers, and our inability to effectively complete controlled burns given that we have a very short window to complete these burns. And then we have arsonists who simply like to set things on fire. However one study attributes only a small percentage of the fires to arsonists.

This article by Clarkson sounds like satire. I’m sitting in a cafe at the moment so cannot watch the video however the comment that “there are so many stupid creatures there” makes it sound like he was having a poorly crafted joke about Australia.

And to neglect to consider that people have been living here for as long as 70,000 years is quite ignorant. The man is a giant douche.
