원형의 종이를 가지고 가위질을 한번만 하여 꼭지점이 5개인 별을 만들어보자.
풀이
이 문제는 아주 유명한 문제로 답은 다음과 같다.
한번 직접 해보자. 듀드니는 이 문제 말고도 오리가미, 즉 종이접기 문제들을 종종 출제했는데 개인적으로 나는 종이접기 문제가 생소해서 그런지 답이 잘 보이지 않는다.
이런 종이접기 류는 인적성 시험의 단골 문제로 등장하는데, 사실 모든 문제들이 그렇듯이 일종의 풀이법이 있긴 하다. 다음번 비슷한 퀴즈에서 그 풀이법을 한번 밝혀보도록 하겠다.
퀴즈 455 사각형 문제
어떤 사각형의 변의 길이가 a,b,c,d, 이고 대각선의 길이를 e, f 라 하자.
그러면 a+b+c+d < 2 (e+f) < 2 (a+b+c+d) 임을 보여라
풀이
이 문제를 풀기 위해선 삼각형의 성질을 알아야 한다.
한 삼각형의 두변의 길이의 합은 나머지 한변의 길이보다 항상 더 크다.
그리고 남은 것은 사각형을 삼각분할하면 된다.
그 뒤 부등식을 적용하면 된다. 처음엔 작은 삼각형을 두번째에는 큰 삼각형을 가지고 부등식을 만든 뒤, 식을 연립하면 된다.
