This is a peanut-based Filipino dish. It is a stew of meat and vegetables in a peanut sauce then you will mix it with sauteed bagoong alamang for a more distinct original delicious taste.
To cook kare-kare you can use pork meat and vegetables like banana heart, eggplant, string beans, `pechay and to some occasions it has squash.

The "peanutty" taste of this dish makes it outstanding and unique to all Filipino dish since this is the only peanut-based dish ever. Old school cooking of this food requires patience for you have to ground peanuts and to powderize glutinous rice for the consistency of the sauce. That is why it is rarely cooked for it requires so much effort and time.

But nowadays there are instant mixes out in the market that shortens the time and the agony of cooking this very delicious dish. I, myself loves Kare-kare and this is one of my favorite and I love to cook it once in a while. I also put squash in my version for it makes the dish more creamy.
