The Fine Line Between Discipline and Harshness

in Hive Learners12 days ago

Things around us are changing very fast and we might not even realize this. When I was in school, you say when I were small, I am talking about 20 years ago (yes I am old guy), now think like this, at that time teachers used to beat the children a lot if they did not do their homework or if they were given any kind of punishment. But now things have changed a lot because nowadays if any teacher raises his hands on the children or even scolds them then the parents file a case against the UN and sometimes teachers have to face some consequences also if they show even a little disrespect towards the children. See, sometimes it is necessary to scare the children but sometimes even the teachers cross their line. I feel that it is better if everything is done within limits. Many times we have seen such cases where teachers beat the children so badly that they lost their lives. (Now the opposite happens if teachers beat the student then teachers are in fear xd. )

See how some times have happened where teachers are very harsh but it is not like that everywhere because sometimes we have to scold children and sometimes it also gets done with love it depends on what kind of child is. If you hit or scold a child then after some time he gets used to it and he understands how to deal with the situation. If I talk about myself then I have been hit very rarely scold or beaten by the teachers sometimes everyone gets beaten but I will not say that much. Look, if I were to speak for myself, I was a average student, not one to lag behind, nor was I particularly intelligent. Many teachers probably didn't even know me, though I could have been in the class for several years, but I never knew if my teachers recognize me (maybe they did ,I am kind of introvert ).

Now a lot has changed, parents do not want teachers to hit them or scold them but all this has happened because of parents love for their children and the children get used to it like this and they get used to all these things. Many times it happens that when there is pressure on the teacher that he cannot scold the children, you cannot do any kind of thing which would scare or embarrass the child, then there is a lot of pressure on the teacher also. Everyone has a different way of teaching, some people are very aggressive, some people teach with a lot of love and the children understand.

I will not say at all that beating and scolding children has a bad impact on them (Sometimes it is not even necessary ) or they do not become good because we also had so many children whose parents were very polite and they might not have even scolded the teachers but still they were quite good in studies and in everything else. I will not say that a child learns things only by scolding. They understands only if they are explained with love but some children are like that and everyone is treated accordingly. Sometimes it is necessary to listen to scolding. Not so much that children get scared of it and stop going to school or college.

Because due to all these things the child gets very stressed and he becomes mentally ill and sometimes the stress becomes so much that he is not able to share his thoughts with anyone. You should keep chatting with the children, from time to time you should ask them how things are going in the school, how is which teacher, is no one troubling them and try to chat with your children in a friendly way, if you make them chat as parents then they may not share any things with you, you have to behave with the children from childhood itself that they share all kinds of things with you, no matter what they are, everyone has secrets, you too will have them, I too will have them, but there should be some chatting.

It's very important to have a balance. If you can't do that, then you should pay attention to all these things. If children's are ready for the easy way then why treat them the other way. What do you think about the this?

Well, respect built through fear does not last forever. There are some strict teachers in my school, tbh they are disliked plus feared lol. Like everyone literally waits for them to leave. But the ones who explained things calmly these teachers are students favourite and respected. So yeah, beating up kids won't be fruitful.

I support you on balancing the discipline. Children should not be left alone because we are in an era of not touching them but there should be limits to how we do it

I think that beating is not the solution. At maximum, it can be used one to two times to make students realize that punishment can be tough. I am a private tutor, and I think that at the present time beating won't work as the psychology of current students is very different from that of the old-time students. We need to adapt to the situation.

Hahaha! OMG! Because of your blog, I suddenly remember my old self when I was in the teaching profession. I was a strict type of educator so before I hit my very first student who seemed so hard-headed, I decided to quit and changed career.🤣
I really don't understand why the law favors parents nowadays. No teacher is allowed to be harsh on students, even if that would mean a part of discipline.
