The latest beauty of Yellowstone

in #travel6 years ago

In a previous article, I introduced you to the beauty of geysers and pools in Yellowstone Park.
I am going today to tell you about other phenomena that this park offers us! This article summarizes our last 3 days in this park, we will then be at Grand Teton Park!
All pictures are personal!

Departure for Yellowstone Canyon which consists of 2 parts: North Rim and South Rim. We start with the North and a small Z-shaped path that brings us to the edge of the waterfall. It is impressive by the force it releases, then the canyon is beautiful. It is yellow hence the name of the river and the park. All along the road between North and South, several points of view are installed. Each time that impresses us, we also see nests of Osprey, who are raptors. Then we head south, just as beautiful with views of the canyon and the waterfall.

Then we go to the Visitor Center to see a museum on the volcano. We learn a lot about how volcanoes work and there is a very large 3D map of Yellowstone.
On the way back we fall on bison. We stop on the parking lot. Just in front of us a male and a female are courting but the female does not seem to want. The ranger is there at the beginning and we are forbidden to leave the car or even to go out a little by the window. Later, a buffalo comes right in front of the car, we could touch it. And as usual people put themselves in danger to have a picture close! Fortunately, a ranger is awake! But be careful there are dozens of deaths a year because of the disrespect of the distance to have with a bison! Because yes they are at liberty, it's their home!

The next day we wake up with 3 ° C, we do not want to leave the duvets!
Norris direction with particular porcelain basin. It feels like another planet: no tree, white soil, fumaroles everywhere and pools in fantastic colors: a creamy but intense blue. Further we meet a huge geyser that explodes when he wants or another that exploded 3 or 4 years ago with flying rocks, nice for tourists ...

We go down to the Midway Basin to see the Grand Prismatic Spring but seen from below. We can see the color gradients quite well. And the water must be very acid given the number of dead crows ... There is also a pretty impressive number of hats that flew away, so I take off my hat.
Then next door there is Opal Pool, huge, blue, transparent and beautiful.

To cut the day and avoid the big heat we will eat at the Oldfaithful Inn. This is an old hotel trapper version, all wood, it is indescribable.

Direction West Thumb last thing we miss him. It's like the other pools but this time next to a big lake which makes the scenery superb. Too bad the weather is not with us (it was nice but we did not see the relief around ... the fires of the West?). We see the two most famous "pools": black pool and abyss pool.

We arrive at the reception where I had booked the day before I give the name of my husband. Nothing to book. Well it does not matter I noted the booking number. I give the number (after waiting 10min for a guy to take a room). Still no room for us. Uh, it starts to be really weird, I stress a blow, we ask them internet because I gave the number of the credit card. Their computer does not work so we look with the phone. And there I see a payment to Cooke City. Big stress is at the other end of the park, 3 hours of road at least! So we search where I could have booked there. And there revelation is the amount I had withdrawn in cash. Whew we did not book in Cooke City but where? Good luck we get a room in the hotel even if we paid elsewhere. I give the name, first name address and when I give the email address, I see it appear as when it has already been returned once. I tell the girl. We find our reservation with a very different name! And yes we did not risk finding it. Ah my famous French accent, but hey it sucks anyway. Easily 1 hour after arriving at the hotel we finally have a room. Big stress on the spot but it makes us laugh now!

Then departure for Grand Teton.

Beauty at its best nice photography

Thank you! Photos are nice but the park is beautiful!

Looks like you had a blast! I'm glad that they gave you a room even though you booked another hotel! Lucky you!

Yellowstone looks so beautiful. It somehow looks different than what I imagined!

Thank you for sharing your adventure with us!

Yes it's really beautiful! You have to see it to believe it!
In fact we had booked well in this hotel but my English is so bad that by phone the person did not understand the name and I did not understand the reservation number (it must be said that in addition the sound went badly !) In short a beautiful memory, this is also the adventure!

The most important thing is that you resolved it :) Exactly! This is also the adventure! Not such a pleasant one but still adventure! :)

Nice article! What was your personal highlight in Yellowstone? For me it was either the Grand Prismatic Spring or the canyon, I can't decide :)

My big moment was the pools, and I think more porcelain basin! And the bison! I found the colors of the fantastic pools, you could be hypnotized! And the bison I had never seen before, they are impressive. it's hard to choose among so much beauty!
