We come across this term so very often on the steem blockchain. We hear so much buzz around witnesses. Not a lot of us know about witnesses, especially if you are new around here or just haven't met the right person to learn from.
A lot of us do know.
A lot of us don't know enough.
So today's question is equally as important as witnesses are:

I think its a great initiative to do a dpoll about Our witnesses offcourse I am bias, I think @blockbrothers is a great choice and even a proxy would be safe because we are transparent to vote for you.
But I am really curious about the outcome of the poll.

I think you were both just anxious to get to the next day of training
Witnesses are hard to explain because early in the training they still seem so complicated. It's hard to get trainees to stop and focus on one thing in those 7 days because EVERYTHING is so new. And the concept of the blockchain is hard so the ones who set the price feed of our crypto and confirm the blocks seems even more of an ambiguous concept.
Often you need to be here for a bit and see it in action for a while and then it starts to unlock naturally.
However, that is long past the 7 days of training.. LOLOL
And I'm seeing a lot of WW people asking questions that we trained them on... So I'm wondering if there needs to be a refresher day on witnesses a month or two later after they've had time to let it sink in... Hmmmmm.
Because when we ask in training "do you have more questions on witnesses?" The answer is usually "no". But.... Now I'm wondering if that's just because they don't know what to ask because it's still confusing.
Very interesting.. gonna have to talk to @bluefinstudios on that one. We might have to add in a quiz on witnesses to really test to see how much they know at the time before we move on. Hmmmmm you have me thinking now lololol

I get part of what witnesses are.. but I suppose I want to know more about the intricacies.. What do they do to keep the steem churning?
so steem runs on servers, and a witness is who runs a steem server. So basically they look after the servers and make sure everything and transactions are processing properly and timely. It requires high tech and expensive equipment as well as being tech savy. (they are similar to bitcoin miners, but in a different way)
also the top 20 witnesses have the right to unanimously agree upon or disagree upon a hard fork proposal. which is quite important!
Thanks. That part makes sense.. but does anyone have to manually validate any votes or replies or anything? How is the weekly payout determined? Just an algorithm maybe agreed upon by a greater than some per centage of servers?
