Global Blockchain Forum highlights industry movers and shakers

The Global Blockchain Forum will be holding on October 4-5 at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco, focusing on “action-oriented movers and shakers in the industry.” The event will discuss about investments, initial coin offerings (ICOs), new industries made by blockchain, new blockchain protocols, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things, and so on. Over 3,000 attendees, 100 speakers, 100 companies and 100 partners will take part in the two-day event. Also the event will hold a pitch competition where 20 startups can present their projects to hundreds of investors and have a chance to get published by TechCrunch. Japan Lost $540 Million to Crypto Hacks in First Half of 2018

According to a report from The Asahi Shimbun Thursday, The Japanese National Police Agency (NPA) has released data of cyber-attacks for the first six months of this year. NPA said that through 158 cyber-breaches, $540 million worth of cryptocurrency had been stolen. The majority of the losses were stolen from exchange platforms, around $518 million, while more than $22 million was taken from individuals' crypto wallets.

EOS hack leads to $58,000 theft

Token exchange Newdex confirmed in an announcement that about $58,000 was stolen by hackers through the issuance of fake EOS tokens in the network. It’s said that the hackers used 11,800 fake EOS to purchase about 4,028 of actual EOS tokens, and then transferred into a Bitfinex account. The Newdex has taken necessary corrective actions and normal operations has resumed, they will track and prosecute the attackers in the future.

The Faith in Bitcoin is Strong: 55% of Bitcoin Held in Multimillion Dollar Wallets

According to new research by Diar, over 55 percent of Bitcoin’s total supply is held in wallets which contain over 200 units. Moreover, one-third of those wallets have never made an outgoing transaction, including during the price’s peak at the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018, which indicates strong faith in Bitcoin by those investors. It’s interesting that 1% of all wallets hold more than half of Bitcoin’s supply.

Singapore Central Bank Flags Website Promoting Bitcoin Scam

Singapore’s central bank, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has issued a statement warning people that a website is using false comments of Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the MAS chairman and Deputy Prime Minister to solicit bitcoin investments. The authority urges people to refrain from providing personal or financial information on the website. It is reported that MAS has taken a consistent stance over cryptocurrency investment and has stepped up their regulatory activity since last year when the country became seen as a haven for cryptocurrency exchanges and ICOs following China’s crackdown.
