Phantom victory of the "Russian world" - memory holed, but not forgotten

On 26 February 2022, two days after the start of the full scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, an article was published by RIA Novosti titled Russia's advance and the advancement of a new world order (translation by yours truly). The article is effectively a summary review of an accomplished defeat of Ukraine by the Russian forces. Unfortunately, I am not going to translate the whole text. I actually considered translating it - which is why this short comment article, that I had started writing some months ago, is only coming out now. But there is just too much stuff in the pipeline - and, in this author's humble opinion, it is oftentimes more important to deliver a message than to deliver it in a perfect format. Meanwhile, the archived version of the article is linked below, so feel free to read it, or have it translated. As I say time and again: don't blindly trust me, don't blindly trust anybody, do your own research, draw your own conclusions.

Back to the article. It's author is one Petr Akopov. For a columnist at a major Russian media outlet he seems to have a rather small internet footprint. A few links to his profiles are provided below. He is reported as a columnist for RIA Novosti, a major state-owned Russian media outlet. He was born on 7 October 1968. The 54 year old's Twitter feed cuts off in 2015 and mostly consists of links to his articles which seem to mostly fall in line with the Russian imperial ideology - the ideology of restoration of the Russian empire.

But in his 26 February he had gone all out. He refers to the alleged Russian conquest of Ukraine as return of Ukraine into Russia. He also lists the dissolution of the Soviet Union as a catastrophe and injustice. And, naturally, it only made sense to reverse this injustice - even if, on the surface of it, that would be... well, a war of aggression and an international crime. Which, most sane people would agree, it is.

Many data points indicate that the plan for invasion called for conquest of Kiev and effective dissolution of Ukraine's of Ukraine as an independent state. The fact that many of the troops on the march only carried about three days worth of provisions and minimal ammunition is consistent with this notion. Same for the testimony of many Russian prisoners of war. So it makes perfect sense that this article would come out two days into what was planned as a three-day victorious march.

The inforwar part of the campaign was likely planned about as well as the military part of it. Hence the article came out, then was soon removed. But, of course, "the internet remembers forever". Hence you have the archived link below. Meanwhile, today is day 310 plus of what was to be a short victorious march - which will likely never end up in anything that would even remotely look like a victory for Russia.

But this article is a massive piece of evidence that the true force behind the war in Ukraine - the war that started no later than the annexation of Crimea in 2014 - is an imperial drive. That is nothing new as anybody who's ever cracked a history book would know.

The result of this war is that the people living there are suffering the most. The people living there can neither do anything nor live their lives normally. This war must end as soon as possible. Just like India is oppressing Pakistani Muslims in Kashmir, Russia is doing it to Ukraine. The rest of the world should help them to end this war.

Sometimes I think that the war might be a new game after the pandemic to desing the new world order, the new world economic order...

I am not sure how well it all has been planned and coordinated.
Sounds like everyone, pretty much, indeed expected Ukraine to fold - but now that Ukrainians decided to play it differently, I think this is an actual bona fide conflict with no particular certainty for any of the major players.
