Not even in US, it's really common in any part of the world. Accidents are really happening every time and moment because of the people trying to be over smart and showing off their smartness which often leads to such stupid acts.
Recently my somewhat nearest relatives also died because of this, two boys where going through some car race in the middle of a road between midnight and they were attending their party they just reached to open their car and the racing boys just hit them so badly that they died.!
Ugh that is horrible. I am sorry that happened to your family. I will be happy when self driving cars are the norm. I fully trust a computer over most of the crazies out there!
I don't mean to be the "ack-chually" guy from the meme but the fender is a panel on the side of the car that has no real purpose other than aesthetics between the bumper and the door and damage to it is usually easily just bumped and buffed out. it isn't at all involved in the operation of the car and perhaps that is how a "fender bender" became known as an accident that isn't that big of a deal.
I've never heard of Sam Fender. He has a nice sound. I love all those picks!

We say bumpers not fenders so don't really use the term fender bender, and usually say a prang.
However Sam Fender is from the North East of England, a Geordie and I like them. I like his music too.
