Hive Open Mic ( #openmic ) is a global community celebrating live music on Hive. Each week is a new event, encouraging musicians to share songs with an international audience.
A friend shared a music video that left a big impression on me. It's a song by the artist formerly known as Prince, called "Nothing Compares 2 U," featuring some special footage of this man in action. The songwriting is so beautiful! Listening, I found myself connecting to the words on a deep level, resonating with the feeling, thinking of the woman I was married to for 10 years, reflecting on our companionship, appreciating her.
After seeing Prince's music video, a friend called me to tell me about his dream, and he told me my music was "gay" to him. I decided to take that comment as a compliment, recognizing some other exemplary men who I see embracing their flowery and feminine qualities, namely Prince. So I decided to try covering his song. I hadn't ever attempted it before, so it was a chance to learn something new.
"Lindas Palabras" (Beautiful Words) is this week's theme in Hive Open Mic. I offer this cover song because the words are beautiful. The story is relatable. The sentiment is vulnerable. The artistry is respectable. I'm sharing Prince's music video below, in case you'd like to look and listen. Meanwhile, I have my own humble version of this song to share here.

I've long toyed with the idea of covering this one, maybe for an upcoming week ill play around with it.
Funny. I didn't even realize this post was published again until you mentioned it. Pretty cool! Yeah, it surprised me the depth of the feeling in this song. At first I was more familiar with the Sinead O'Connor cover, but the subtle differences I hear in Prince's version makes the meaning much more accessible to me. I think you'll rock this song - give it a whirl.

I would probably try and emulate Kelly Jones of The Stereophonics version if I tried this one.
