The MD Requested For Just An Estimate

Just an estimate

Hey, Gbenga, draw up an estimate for the construction of a new workshop for the maintenance department said the managing director after the board meeting. However, Gbenga shrugged in confusion. Sir, I’m an accountant; we have the operations manager in our midst. May we redirect the task to his desk, sir?

However, the MD insisted, "Gbenga, I want just an estimate." Immediately after the meeting, Gbenga came to my office and complained about the assignment. I politely reminded him of his feedback during his final assessment with the MD. He was asked how he could add value to the organisation. In his response, he claimed he can cross-function. Therefore, I asked him to relax, collaborate with the operations department, and present just an estimate to the MD.

He was happy with the feedback and swiftly moved into action. He collaborated with the operations team, and they assisted him with every detail required to get an estimate for the workshop.

At the next meeting, Gbenga presented the workshop estimate. After the presentation, the MD praised him for his ability to cross-function. We smiled and moved on with the meeting.

After the meeting, Gbenga was all smiles. The two of us understood what went on behind the scenes. He received his flowers for being agile. I was also happy to have helped him excel on that task. After all, we are Team (Together Each Achieves More)
