my Butterfly Garden

Hello Gardeners of Hive!

It has been months and months since I last shared here. To be honest, it has been months since I really dedicated time to gardening. These days I would consider the work I do most so landscaping. Moving rocks out of paths, pruning very old trees to hopefully give them a new phase of growth - that is what I have been up to. My once tended to veggie patch has gone wild. I am embracing the wildness of this phase of my life and, actually encouraging it.

That takes me right to the video that I wanted to share with you all today. This video isn't exactly about gardening. Well it is and it isn't This is a video about how gardeners can play a key role in the lives of butterflies. And gardening is key to the role we humans can play. I briefly considered sharing this in an insect related community but, I have never been very active, in those. And besides, my approach to studying butterflies has everything to do with my little gardens.

I say this is a guide to butterfly ecology but, there is still so much left to say. Think of this as a part one, or introduction to butterfly gardens. Still, I can say that I attempted to explain the basics of what butterflies need to thrive. And you can be sure that gardens are a big part of that.

Very nicely made and informative video!
Clare and I discovered a beautiful (kind of) butterfly in our garden, days ago, that seem to be a mox between a beetle, a dragonfly and a butterfly. When it flies, it looks like a beetle, when it sits down it looks like a butterfly ( with translucent wing tops and purple lower part of its wings ). We keep discovering new insects on our land on an almost daily basis. It's pretty magical.

sounds like a beetle to me! enjoy the magic anyway!

You're MIA for some time but you're back 💃🎶, you got busy with life and everything ha. And butterflies, they are seriously a beautiful creatures and seeing a few of them in our garden made me so excited but often time, I get so disappointed because they always fly away whenever i move closer to them. On the other hand, Its so cool that you're learning more about butterflies now. ✨💃

I know exactly what you mean about the butterflies, it has been very challenging to film them over the years, so I wanted to make this video to share all the beautiful butterfly moments captured over the years.

Do you have wild/reseeding vegetables? :D

I'm in the process of trying to set up pollinator gardens in the areas that are too part-sunny for fruits and vegetables. Very early days/weeks/months so everything is too teeny tiny to be useful right now.

Mostly I have herbs and flowers at the moment! the goal is to start a new veggie/pollinator garden next spring after I move to my own land.
I wish you so much luck with your pollinator garden!!

That sounds like a great plan ^_^ Thanks :)

is it your own video and your voice? so well-done! so professional! It was very interesting to watch it

Yeah! I made this video and my partner helped me record the voice over and edited it a little bit for a better listening experience. Thank you so much!!!
