I remember back in those days when my grandpa was still alive,he reared chickens for sale and for family consumption too. I normally visited him when I was on holiday and his children and I were always having good times taking care of the little chicks. He told us the practice is called Animal husbandry. This word sounded big to us then.
What I discovered during my stay there was that when it is night the chickens do not sleep like humans,they are always awake feeding till when they are tired. Because of this, they need a well lighted cage/house. This light must be an amber light such as the amber light of natural dusk and dawn to help the chickens maintain their natural circadian rhythm and also maintain their health. With this amber light,the chickens would never know darkness and will live a better life.
Knowing this color of amber light made me never fail any questions on traffic lights in Security and Social Studies in primary school.
