Hello to everyone in the Hive's Red Carpet community! Today I bring you an article dedicated to one of the projects to which I have taken more time, money and effort, it is the making of what will be two garments that I will use for the day of my book signing and my graduation ceremony. I have been planning for about a year now everything involved in making these garments a reality and here I will tell you little by little how this process has been worth it, let's start!
As many will know, the graduation ceremony is one of the most anticipated moments for future graduates of any career because of all the context behind it: the end of our life as students, the beginning as professionals, the illusion of receiving our degree, our parents and loved ones in a unique moment, etc.. Some choose not to do this but I personally feel very excited about it and would not miss it. So, together with my friend and classmate, Lenke, we were looking for designs, fabrics and prices to make our dresses and suits.

El día de hoy les traigo un articulo dedicado a uno de los proyectos a los que les he tomado más tiempo, dinero y empeño, se trata de la confección de lo que serán dos vestimentas que utilizaré para el día de mi firma del libro y mi acto de grado. Llevo ya alrededor de un año planificando todo lo que implica hacer realidad estás prendas y aquí les iré contando poco a poco como ha sido este proceso que sin duda ha valido la pena ¡Comencemos!
Como muchos sabrán, el acto de grado es uno de los momentos más esperados por los futuros egresados de cualquier carrera debido a todo el contexto detrás de él: el final de nuestra vida como estudiantes, el comienzo como profesionales, la ilusión de recibir nuestro título, nuestros padres y seres queridos en un momento único, etc. Algunos optan por no realizar esto pero personalmente yo me siento muy emocionada por ello y no me lo perdería. Por lo cual, junto a mi amiga y compañera de clases, Lenke, estuvimos buscando diseños, telas y precios para realizar nuestros vestidos y trajes.
I must say that it is very important to take into account the economic factor. Since I don't have so many resources and I don't think it's a good idea to waste an excessive amount of money just for two events, I thought of having my clothes made with my friend Mariangela and her mother Ana. We have years of friendship and her mother always made our garments, so it also helped me that it was a custom-made garment. I looked for formal dresses beforehand and practically all of them were either too small or too expensive.
The budget for this project was about $200, which is divided into: about $40 for fabric, $20 for a pair of shoes, $20 for jewelry and $120 for tailoring. It was an estimate of what I had to spend but fortunately I got several things at a lower price for example, jewelry and fabric. And that's where we're going to take some time to talk about what fabrics I need.
Debo decir que es muy importante tomar en cuenta el factor económico. Como yo no tengo tantos recursos y tampoco me parece una buena idea derrochar una cantidad excesiva de dinero solo por dos eventos, pensé en mandar a hacer mis prendas con mi amiga Mariangela y su madre Ana. Tenemos años de amistad y su madre siempre realizaba nuestras prendas por lo que también me ayudaba el hecho de que fuera una ropa a la medida. Busque con anterioridad vestidos formales y prácticamente todos eran de tallas muy pequeñas o demasiados costosos.
El presupuesto para este proyecto fueron de unos 200$ aproximadamente y que se divide en: unos 40$ dólares en tela, 20$ en un par de zapatos, 20$ en joyas y 120$ en la confección. Era un estimado de lo que tenía que gastar pero afortunadamente conseguí varias cosas en un menor precio por ejemplo, las joyas y las telas. Y es allí donde nos vamos a tomar un tiempo para hablar sobre que telas necesite.
For the book signing I decided to choose a lilac tone outfit, with pants, blazer and a white blouse. I leave a reference image. The fabrics used were Kiwi Stretch and Ponge for the lining, about 3 meters of each. For the blouse were Chiffon and lining, about 1 and a half meters. For this choice my friend Mariangela accompanied me and we saw several fabrics and of all these were the ones we found the most beautiful and pleasant.
For the graduation ceremony I will use a long dress with empire cut and emerald color. Here is a reference image. At first we had chosen Satin but we couldn't find the fabric when we went to the place again, so we opted for Chiffon Creppe and Silk Creppe, the latter for the lining. It was about 3 meters for each fabric. The total I got for all the fabrics, both the first batch and the second were about $30. Much less than I expected.
Para la firma del libro decidí escoger un conjunto de tono lila, con pantalón, blazer y una blusa blanca. Dejo una imagen de referencia. Las telas utilizadas fueron Kiwi Strech y Ponge para el forro, unos 3 metros de cada uno. Para la blusa fueron Chifón y forro, alrededor de 1 metro y medio. Para esta elección mi amiga Mariangela me acompañó y vimos varias telas y de todas estas fueron las que nos parecieron más bonitas y agradables.
Para el acto de grado utilizaré un vestido largo de corte imperio y de color esmeralda. Les dejo una imagen de referencia. Al principio habíamos elegido que fuera de Satín pero no encontramos la tela cuando fuimos al lugar otra vez, por lo que optamos por Chifón Creppe y Creppe Seda, este último para el forro. Fueron unos 3 metros por cada tela. El total que obtuve por todas las telas, tanto la primera tanda como la segunda fueron de unos 30$. Mucho menos de lo que esperaba.
My friend had already taken my measurements and I just had to wait for her to call me to go back and measure the garments to make the final adjustments. In the meantime I got for a good price two necklaces at 10$ each and I thought they were beautiful, which I will use one for each respective event and the earrings I already have them for a long time.
Finally a few days ago I was able to measure the dresses and although the pictures are not very clear because we were busy making the arrangements, you can see more or less how this project is going. I am super happy because everything is just as I wanted and needed. We just need to adjust some things like the cuff, the length of the blazer, buttons, adjust a little more some garments and we are ready. Both events are estimated to be held around December 16, 17 or 19 of this year, so for that day I will show them completely as it has been.
I have nothing left to say but thank you very much first of all to my friend Mariangela and her mother Ana who have been super dedicated to this work and have done it with a lot of love. Mi amiga ya había tomado mis medidas y solo tenía que esperar porque ella me llamara para ir de nuevo y medirme las prendas para realizar los últimos ajustes. Entre tanto yo conseguí por un buen precio dos collares en 10$ cada uno y que me parecieron preciosos, los cuales utilizaré uno para cada respectivo evento y los zarcillos ya los tengo desde hace tiempo.
Finalmente hace unos días pude ir a medirme los vestidos y aunque las imágenes no son muy claras pues, estábamos ocupadas haciendo los arreglos, pueden ver más o menos como va este proyecto. Yo estoy súper feliz porque todo está justo como yo quería y necesitaba. Solo falta ajustar ciertas cosas como el puño, el largo del blazer, botones, ajustar un poco más algunas prendas y ya estamos listas. Ambos actos están estimados a celebrarse alrededor del 16, 17 o 19 de Diciembre de este año, así que para ese día los mostraré totalmente como ha quedado.

Me encanta cuando uno logra involucrarse con todo el proceso de confección. Me alegra que encontraras a una persona que te ayudara con esto.
