A walk along the Xanas route (Asturias)

in Pinmapple6 months ago (edited)

Rainy days and with an explosive cyclogenesis are days in which walking becomes impossible and at the same time not recommended because of the danger that a tree branch or any other element can damage us, so in view of this #wednesdaywalk and taking advantage of it I have started to review a wonderful walk that I did a few months ago with my work colleagues.

The walk in question consisted of a mountain route of 3.8 km in length with about 350 meters of slope that connects the village of Las Xanas to the village of Pedroveya. The starting point was the recreational area of Las Xanas, where we first encountered a steep slope as we walked along the national road.

After the first 200 metres on the road, we take a stony path that leads us to the Xanas gorge, from where we can see that we have gained altitude after only a few metres of walking.

The first part of the walk is really beautiful for photography lovers, as we can see the great mountains towering over the valley carved out by the erosion of the Xanas river.

At the same time, I was delighted to have to walk through several areas of the gorge through caves carved out of the limestone rock.

As you can see, I did the route in the caboose of the group, because I had a lot of fun taking pictures of all the fascinating things around me.

But when my companions wanted a special photo in the surroundings, they were waiting for me to immortalise the mountain day that the whole company was having.

The second part of the route, once we had passed the gorge, consists of a wooded area where we came across some old water mills.

At the same time, we are close to the river that we heard earlier from the top of the gorge. We have to cross it on several occasions over the various wooden bridges that exist.

However, this forest area also has its great difficulty in an area of large steps, which was a real leg-breaker for most of us.

The final part of the route is the most comfortable, with a single climb on a dirt road. But with the reward of being able to enjoy beautiful views of the Asturian mountains.

The end of the route ends at this church where I took a photo of all my companions.

But the end of our route was the restaurant Casa Generosa, which is a rural restaurant with homemade food and set in the traditional Asturian aerial barns called hórreos.

In fact we were able to eat underneath one of these hórreos.

And of course, we ate traditional Asturian food such as beans, cabbage stew, and various dishes of pork, chicken and lamb.

And after some desserts we went back to do the route in reverse to return for our cars.

Happy Wednesday.

Very sensible to not do a walk in those conditions and revisiting a previous walk and what an amazing place to hike and explore a mixed of rugged beauty with the rock walls and caves and then beautiful scenic views

Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk :)

I have left the hotel now and my umbrella has been totally destroyed.

What was I thinking when I went out with it in the wind?

!LUV

remind sme of NYC its so windy there often on a rain day you see so many umbrellas dumped on the side of the road smashed by the wind

Looks very nice and cool :)

Yay! 🤗

What I liked the most was the food part ha, ha, ha... What I observe is that you have to have conditions to walk in those mountains, the landscapes are beautiful, thank you for showing it to the community and I hope to be able to enjoy them one day.

The food was the final reward for the ascent. Homemade and plentiful food.

The scenery was beautiful as was the day shared with my work colleagues.

Your Wednesday walk adventures sound absolutely breathtaking, even though I wouldn't recommend it on a day like today with explosive cyclogenesis! 😅 The scenic mountain route from Las Xanas to Pedroveya seems like an incredible journey.

It is advisable to go in good weather but not too hot.

On a clear day the views are very beautiful.

What a nice hike! I love the views - those mountains are beautiful. You definitely deserved your meals 😊

Thank you for sharing!
