Hello, Hivers readers. In today's review, I would like to talk about a book by a classic writer, perhaps forgotten by many but known for his works, I'm talking about "Charles Dickens" a British writer who lived in the nineteenth century and so far has been recognized as one of the most representative classic writers of world literature, for his contribution and works that still continue to have great admiration by many readers and other writers. Dickens is considered one of the greatest novelists of the nineteenth century, who gave life to a large number of fictional characters known until now and even anything or reference to this writer, related to his works or any argument where there is clearly something that mentions him, is known with the term "Dickensian". Suffice it to say that reading Dickens is not complicated at all, his prose, his way of bringing us the characters and even the story itself, is not presented as something complicated to understand or assimilate, rather it is linear, of structure where the characters and the story are developed without so much preamble, where even in his time he was criticized by other great writers for, according to them, showing stories lacking in depth and full of sentimentality. It is clear that for the time the demands on literature were strict, but what is very certain is that Charles' quality prevails year after year.

En el review de hoy, me gustaría hablarles de un libro de un escritor clásico, tal vez olvidado por muchos pero conocido por sus obras, les hablo de “Charles Dickens” un escritor británico que vivió en el siglo XIX y que hasta ahora ha sido reconocido como uno de los escritores clásicos más representativos de la literatura universal, por sus aporte y obras que aún siguen teniendo gran admiración por muchos lectores y otros escritores. Dickens, es considerado uno de los mayores novelistas del siglo XIX, quien dio vida a una gran cantidad de personajes ficticios conocidos hasta ahora e incluso cualquier cosa o referencia entorno a este escritor, relacionado con sus obras o algún argumento donde se encuentre claramente algo que lo mencione, se le conoce con el término “Dickensiano”. Basta decir que leer a dickens no es nada complicado, su prosa, su forma de traernos los personajes e incluso la historia en sí, no se plantea como algo complicado de entender o asimilar, más bien es lineal, de estructura donde se desarrollan los personajes y la historia sin tanto preámbulo, donde incluso en su época fue criticado por otros grandes escritores por, según ellos, mostrar historias carentes de profundidad y llenas de sentimentalismo. Está claro que para la época las exigencias con la literatura eran estrictas, pero lo que sí es muy cierto, es que la calidad de Charles prevalece año tras año.

"A Tale of Two Cities" is a story set in the eighteenth century, where despite being taking place at the time of the French Revolution, the story takes place somewhat outside the events caused by the war, but if it is linked in own issues carried out by the war, such as trials, extraditions and even executions, of which at the climax of the story the execution and love are present. Dickens in this novel presents us with a marked oxymoron to the situations, where the terror of a death penalty is embraced with the love of a man for a woman, all this far from being the love of her life but to make the sacrifice for the love he feels for her, changing his place to save the husband of whom he loves, so that she is happy. Truly a story that leaves us with goose bumps. It all begins and takes place between London and France, when the protagonist of this story suffers the horrors of having her father held captive by a family "Saint Evremont" a bloodthirsty and murderous family that imprisoned Lucia's father in dungeon 105, subjecting and torturing him for more than 15 years. After being released and after several events, Lucia and her father are witnessing a trial of a man accused of espionage, giving the final verdict to the accused of innocence, being the one who would be Lucia's future husband, Mr. Charles Darnay, who to Lucia's and her father's surprise is a descendant of the family that kept him captive for so many years, a "Saint Evremont", but he confesses that he wants to get away from the horrors of his family and reverse the bloody past of his family. In the process a former suitor of Lucia, who in turn was Darnay's defense attorney, "Sidney Carton", who lost the opportunity to court Lucia because he was an alcoholic, promised her at her wedding that he would give his life for her happiness, because he still loved her; this alerted Lucia, who responded with anguish to always remember his words, because of the fear she felt when she heard his confession, considering that this could result in the aggression to her future husband. In France, Darnay, upon learning of the apprehension of a friend, went to that city, but being an emigrant, he was imprisoned. In turn, "Defarge", who is a bartender in the city, learned that a descendant of the "Saint Evremont" family was in the city and he swore to destroy the family, since this family had murdered his wife's parents. Already imprisoned in the 105th Bastille prison and in the middle of the war for the French Revolution, Darnay is tried, giving him the death penalty for having left Paris. Lucia, who is taking care of her daughter, faints with the news, seeing how her future would be snatched by knowing that her husband would be taken to the guillotine, something that at that time was normal, where more than 50 people were executed daily and not even the wealthiest were saved from these. The lawyer Carton upon learning of Lucia's suffering, fulfills his promise, taking Darnay's place, changing places with him, entering his cell, giving him a strong blow, leaving him unconscious, proceeding to change his clothes and taking his place. While in prison, Carton met hours before a 16 year old girl who was also sentenced to death, telling him her story and at the moment of death, they give each other a deep kiss and he promises to meet her in the afterlife. A true work, this book is one of those that when finished leaves a lump in the throat; the use of sensitivity in this book makes it one of the most sought after by lovers of romanticism, even though this book is not linked to the happy ending of the one who is considered the hero. Charles Dickens was a writer who left us a great number of literary works with a very distinctive style, where his way of creating makes him very particular to the point of creating the term Dickensian.
“Historia de dos ciudades” es una historia ambientada en el siglo XVIII, donde a pesar de estarse llevando a cabo en la época de la revolución francesa, la historia transcurre un tanto ajena a los hechos causados por la guerra, pero si está ligada en asuntos propios llevados a cabo por dicha guerra, como juicios, extradiciones e incluso ejecuciones, de las cuales en el clímax de la historia la ejecución y el amor se hacen presentes. Dickens en esta novela nos plantea un marcado oxímoron ante las situaciones, donde lo terrorífico de una pena de muerte se abraza con el amor de un hombre por una mujer, todo esto lejos de ser el amor de la vida de ella sino, hacer el sacrificio por el amor que siente por ella, cambiando su lugar para salvar al esposo de quien él ama, para que ella sea feliz. Realmente una historia que nos deja con la piel de gallina. Todo empieza y transcurre entre Londres y Francia, cuando la protagonista de esta historia sufre los horrores de tener a su padre cautivo por una familia “Saint Evremont” una familia sanguinaria y asesina que aprisionó al padre de Lucía, en el calabozo 105, sometiéndolo y torturándolo por más de 15 años. Luego de ser liberado y transcurridos varios hechos, lucía y su padre se encuentran presenciando un juicio, de un hombre acusado de espionaje, dando como veredicto final al acusado de inocente, siendo este el que sería el futuro esposo de lucía el señor “Charles Darnay” que para sorpresa del padre de lucía y de ella es descendiente de la familia que lo mantuvo cautivo por tantos años, un “Saint Evremont”, pero este le confiesa que quiere alejarse de los horrores de su familia y revertir el tan sangriento pasado de su familia. En el proceso un ex pretendiente de Lucía, quien a su vez fue el abogado defensor de Darnay, “Sidney Carton” quien por alcohólico perdió la oportunidad de cortejar a lucía, le prometió en su boda que daría su vida por su felicidad, porque aun la amaba; esto alertó a lucia respondiendo con angustia que recuerde siempre sus palabras, por el temor que sintió al escuchar su confesión, teniendo en cuenta que esto le podría resultar en la agresión a su futuro esposo. En Francia Darnay al conocer de la aprehensión de un amigo se dirigió a esa ciudad pro al el ser un emigrante, fue encarcelado, a su vez “Defarge” quien es un cantinero de la ciudad, se entera de que un descendiente de los “Saint Evremont”, se encuentra en la ciudad y él juró acabar con la familia ya que, dicha familia había asesinado a los padres de su esposa. Ya apresado en la prisión 105 de bastilla y en plena guerra por la revolución francesa, es procesado Darnay, dándole la pena de muerte por haber abandonado parís. Lucía quien se encuentra cuidando a su hija, se desmaya con la noticia, viendo como su futuro estaría arrebatado por saber que su esposo lo llevarían a la guillotina, cosa que en aquel entonces era normal, donde diariamente eran ejecutados más de 50 personas y ni al más adinerado se salvaba de estas. El abogado Carton al enterarse del sufrimiento de lucía, cumple su promesa, tomando el puesto de Darnay, cambiando de lugar con él, entrando a su celda, propinándole un fuerte golpe, dejándolo inconsciente, procede a cambiar sus ropas y tomando su lugar. Ya en prisión carton conoció horas antes a una joven de 16 años quien también fue sentenciada a muerte, contándole su historia y al momento de morir, se dan un beso profundo y le promete encontrarse en la otra vida. Una verdadera obra, este libro es de esos que al ser terminados nos deja un nudo en la garganta; el uso de la sensibilidad en este libro lo hace ser uno de los más buscados por los amantes del romanticismo, a pesar de que este libro no está ligado al final feliz del que se considera el héroe. Se tomarán en cuenta tres puntos principales: 1. ¿de qué trata la historia? 2. Ritmo de la historia 3. ¿En qué género se puede definir esta novela? Charles Dickens fue un escritor que nos dejó gran cantidad de obras literarias con un estilo muy distintivo, donde su forma de crear lo hacen muy particular al punto de crearse el término Dickensiano.
1. what is the story about?
The story is about the tortures of bloodthirsty and murderous families, who by their actions took the lives of many and their relatives others. How escaping from his roots can be so complicated that despite not following in his family's footsteps, he still pays for the tortures that his relatives carried out, all this linked to the promise of giving his life for the love of a woman, even though his love is not reciprocated. This antonymous way of presenting this novel embraces us to a plot oxymoron, where death can give happiness or love can lead to death.
La historia trata de las torturas de familias sanguinarias y asesinas, que por sus actos le quitaron la vida a muchos y sus parientes a otros. De cómo escapar de sus raíces puede ser tan complicado qu a pesar de no seguir los pasos de su familia aun así pagar por las torturas que sus parientes realizaron, todo esto ligado a la promesa de dar la vida por el amor de una mujer, a pesar de que su amor no se correspondido. Esta forma antónima de presentarse esta novela nos abraza a un oxímoron argumental, donde la muerte puede dar felicidad o el amor llevarte a la muerte.
2. rhythm of the story
The pace is fresh, gives us room for creativity and imagination, managing to represent each scenario as a movie that is happening as the reading progresses, seeing the story as something that could have happened, as this is set in a real time. It always keeps us attentive to what is going to happen without being shown as a mystery, it is quite explicit and without plot holes.
El ritmo es fresco, nos da espacio a la creatividad y a la imaginación, logrando representar cada escenario como una película que va pasando a medida que la lectura avanza, viéndose la historia como algo que pudo haber ocurrido, ya que esto es ambientado en una época real. Siempre nos mantiene atentos a que va a ocurrir sin que se muestre tampoco como un misterio, es bastante explicita y sin vacíos argumentales.
3. in what genre can this novel be defined?
It is not a romantic novel despite the ending, it is not a historical account, nor is it a horror chronicle, but it could be said to be a very exquisite mixture of everything, and this is based on my personal opinion.
No es una novela romántica a pesar del final, no es un relato histórico, tampoco es una crónica terrorífica, pero pudiera decirse que es una muy exquisita mezcla de todo y ojo, esto es basado en mi opinión personal.
