The mother

She knows no other truth than that
she did her best and yet she stands here blameful
And turns all cheeks to your throwing of stones.

Oh if she could have it all again she could work harder,
she could sleep less, or listen more but only
that she did give her entire being and still she went wrong.

Oh if she could have it all again she would hold you..
She would freeze time at the age when you still cried to be held and yet
The pain of not being enough is sharper than any blow she would
happily take to not see the sorrow in your eye.
