This morning, I spent a little time getting my profile on LinkedIn brought current, and then I actually wrote a post there, for the first time in several years.
It was interesting, in the sense that for a brief moment I found myself thinking that I was somehow "betraying" Hive by posting something on linkedin. Or, at least, posting something without it being a blatant promotion of Hive.
In turn, I paused to think about the recent discussions we have had here about the potential rebranding of Hive because it is lingering in nothingness, and how that ultimately might not be such a great idea because what little consistency we have is now tied to the name "Hive."
Besides, the argument that Hive as a name is "too generic" doesn't hold water because what about Apple — you can't get much more generic than that — and Amazon is not exactly a unique name either and neither of those two giant organizations have names that say even the remotest thing about what they're about.

I really don't think I've has a naming problem, I think we have an invisibility problem. And it's not necessarily an invisibility problem in terms of lacking marketing and publicity, but an invisibility problem in terms of the sad reality that what we post here just does not end up being seen by the greater world.
Occasionally, I have tried to search for some of my older posts where I know a lot of the content and tags, and have been completely unable to bring them up.
Which, to bring the bunny back around, gets me back to my writing a post on LinkedIn this morning. I am tired of being invisible. Much as I love Hive I don't really feel much like putting effort into something of greater depth and interest to an external audience when it is almost a guarantee that it's not going to be seen by anybody.
Don't get me wrong, I love Hive and I love writing my blog here, and I love sharing thoughts about this that and the other but I have long since given up on the idea that it's going to be read by more than a couple of dozen people (on a good day!), and I realize that I don't really care all that much about the all-hallowed upvotes and rewards because — frankly — they are relatively insignificant to those of us who live in a part of the world where a hamburger costs $20, so that's the equivalent of the liquid rewards from 10 posts if you're really successful!
That's not really an equation that works for me.
So part of my writing a post on LinkedIn was also for the purpose of being able to post something that has an active page view counter just to see how much or little my article, when well tagged, might get. I'm kind of curious about this whole invisibility thing.

I plan to do something similar and various other social sites where I have accounts just to see what happens, whether it's Facebook, Instagram, or somewhere else. I think I have an old Medium account somewhere, so I might try that too.
This doesn't mean that I'm leaving Hive in any way — far from it — but it does mean that I'm testing the veracity of the invisibility issue.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful week!
