There were tens of millions of Americans who moved last year. It's estimated that somewhere around 27+ million individuals moved to a new destination and that made some regions more popular for inbound moving than others. On the flip side that means that some areas ranked top for outbound traffic too.
Where was the most popular move place in 2021? That title would go to Vermont.
Followed by Vermont it was South Dakota, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Florida. These were the top destinations that attracted movers.
The top 5 outbound states: New Jersey, Illinois, New York, Connecticut, California.
More individuals have also been deciding to move closer to their families.
Retirement was a big motivation and we saw huge numbers deciding to retire early, top areas for retirement destinations in 2021 were places like Florida, South Carolina, Arizona, Delaware, and Idaho.

Los Angeles was said to be one of the biggest losing cities which saw over 150k residents pick up and move elsewhere.
Meanwhile, other states saw the opposite. With some cities in places like Texas seeing thousands of new residents coming in for 2021.
Businesses have also been leaving the state of CA too, with dozens making the move in 2021 to set up shop elsewhere.
Though they might have seen more traffic coming into the state those regions aren't necessarily known to be among the cheapest or most affordable areas in the country. Some of the more affordable states to live in the United States are areas like Kansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri.
