Here are a few tips I would like to share with my fellow minnows to help them improve their writings and increase their audience.
Don't Be Excessive With Your Posts
Don't overwhelm your audience with 100 daily posts. They may be already overwhelmed by their feeds, and you end up overwhelming yourself with comments.
When you write a post, make sure you have the time to read the comments and reply to them (the significant ones at least). A blog aims to encourage discussions, and in my view, if people are taking the time to comment on my posts, I should return the courtesy and reply to them. Mutual appreciation is the key.
Follow The Followers
Sometimes we would like to follow the followers in the spirit of "returning the favor", but that might not always be a good idea. Some followers may have blogs in a foreign language, with very little content, or different interests to ours. In such cases, we shouldn't feel bad for not following them. Besides, there are other people who will have common interests and will surely follow them. So we all get followers one way or another. It's better to follow someone that will actually benefit from your read and upvote, instead of being an idle follower.
Add Relevant Images To Your Posts

A picture is worth a thousand words. It will add color and relevance to the post. It will break the dullness of long texts and will allow the readers to breathe between the paragraphs. Don't overdo it though, you want them to read after all, not get distracted by cute scottish fold kittens (Google can provide a lot of those if you're bored)!

Avoid Long Texts
If you're treating a serious subject that requires a long writing, split it in a few parts/posts. You don't want the readers spending an hour reading your text. They have other things to read, and it may get boring for them. Keep it short and sweet.
Learn Markdown & Structure Your Text
This will help you vary the dynamics of your text and make it more interesting to read. Use paragraphs, highlight important words in bold/italic, use titles and subtitles. Check https://stackedit.io/ to get you started.
And finally, be yourself, have fun and let it flow. Be nice to others, and others will be nice to you. Nobody likes to be treated disrespectfully. Kindness will take you far.

So very true, don't try to be popular, you will naturally grow your own audience if you post quality blogs that you are interested in.
