Archdruid Gaming: Author Showcase Issue 5

in #curation6 years ago

We had another week of a heavy nod towards retro feeling games and nostalgia topics in general. If that is not your thing. No worries, our author showcase has other posts in it as well. Everything from a game developer working on one of his projects and even reviews on games you might never hear of! It has been an exciting week for our gaming community!

@Fromage has a weekly post that is all about showcasing a game he has a great passion for. He also shared some wonderful memories from it while exploring the topic. They can contain a fair amount of nostalgia into why he still has great joy for something or even why the passion is just no longer there.

In his recent one Magic The Gathering he takes the reader down memory lane of his childhood. As he remembers going to the comic store and opening up his first starter deck and some other packs. It is about friendship, betrayal, and loneliness. I think we got everything needed to make a movie out of this post!

@Pixelbites like all gamers have an impressive backlog of games to get around to playing. If anyone is like members of our community I’m sure you know that feeling of a good discount or a promising looking game. Steemit creates a great place to have an excess to get caught up and write some reviews on those games in the process.

In his occasionally posted series Backlog Review where he explores a new game. He goes over one called Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. In it, he explores if this game can stand on its own two feet or is it just trying to get in on retro gaming vibe that been going around in gaming world. Needless to say, it can and you should read it to find out why we might have another vampire in our gaming community. We are now checking all new members for bite marks around the neck!

zealouscoder.png

@Zealouscoder is a game developer with quite a lot of dreams and ambitions in his current and future plans in the gaming industry. This is just one of the amazing things when it comes to gaming. You don’t just have to sit on the sidelines and play video games you can create them as well! As such he is a programmer, a creator, and so much more.

We get to find out in Current Game Progress about a project he is working on. He goes over the complications and bugs that can arise when just adding in new things to a game. You get to learn a fair amount about what is going into making this game. Which you can even try out now and he is even looking for feedback as well.

vladalexan.png

@Vladalexan is one of those authors who is always looking to create something unique and amazing at the same time. He tends to focus on underlying themes that can be seen in the gaming industry. Sometimes these are from a single game perspective other times he brings in a few game titles to explore the topic.

This time around it is all about looking into Shotguns used in video games. He showcases the classic all the way up to just insane gun styles. As if the developers were trying to outdo other games in how many barrels one could fit onto a shotgun! Some of them are quite powerful while others leave the gamer being disappointed in the damage capabilities. This even seems to be the only thing some of the game have going for themselves.

Author 5

ggt.png

@Ggt has a way of making his readers feel right at home. He does this by creating a very friendly introduction before even getting into the game review or playthroughs. He also opens the floor up for a discussion. He goes over quite a few different aspects of a game. Finally ties it all together using a visually pleasing page divider to break things up.

We can see how this plays out in his playthrough of Pixel Piracy where he sets sail as a pirate by the same name as his. He goes over the basics of what the game is and some thoughts on it. You then get to embark on this adventure into piracy. Throughout exploration, upgrading, and yarring the adventure Is just getting started with this being only part one!

Author 6

xr-hammergaming.png

@Xr-hammergaming is a creator who produces Dtube and Dlive videos. He has wonderful banter that you get to see when he playing solo or with other players. He uploads daily and is playing a couple of different games at this time.

We can watch him enjoy some Dungeon Defenders 2 in one of his more recent uploaded videos. He explains some of his thought process behind the defense he is building. He does this by placing blockades to slow down enemies and some turrets and other objects to help take out incoming enemies. Then you get to see how the defensive plays out as he runs around assisting in any areas that start to accumulate too many monsters. He also gives some helpful tips on where to find the needed resources to build the different items.

debralee.png

@Debralee is a Minecraft player who has been sharing updates from time to time on her adventures on Villag3Craft. The server itself is made up of a few Minecraft personalities as they do a season play of a few different activities. She likes to use both written and video to give those who enjoy either format a rundown on how things are going.

We can see in her latest updated called Diamond Dust that she is living up to her name-- Diamond Deb. She has acquired a full set of diamond gear and enchanted it to boot as well! She has been busy planning and building quite a few different things in or around their community area. Some of which she won’t let us see just yet. She then takes you on an adventure to a spot she found. I won’t spoil the rest you will just have to watch.

Author 8

thegarbageman.png

@Thegarbageman shows us his true gamer in him. Even when gamers go on vacations of sorts it is true we still look for opportunities to go gaming! This just means going out into the real world and enjoying a different style of things.

He takes us along on his trip to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. He gives some helpful hint in how to beat the real-life game called Traffic Jam. As a fun side quest, he does some miniature golf and then it’s off to the main quest—arcade games. Santa Cruz has a massive area set up just for that kind of gaming. Many of them you have never seen before.

Author 9

rey56.png

@Rey56 is an author who illuminates the pages with gifts, custom page dividers and makes the page pleasing to the eye. In addition, she provides a scorecard at the end of her gaming reviews. If you are someone who enjoys very colorful and eye-pleasing reviews this is a great one to check out.

You can see her attention to detail in the way the overall review of Gray Garden is set up. She goes over the different characters that are in the game. So the reader has a better understanding of the lore and how they have an impact on the world. She also goes over the battle system, soundtracks, and carves out a spot at the end for her overall personal opinion.

gamingstation.png

@Gamingstation really brings in the nostalgia this week. While we all love to reminisce about how wonderful the games were in the past. In all honesty, you really did not know better than not to fall in love with the games back then since there was not much of a wide selection. This also meant putting up with those bugs they were filled. Not to mention most of them where hard even for the hardcore among us.

We get to find out just that as he explores these topics in
The Nostalgia and the Bugs
. He pokes some fun at some older but not too old games and how today's gaming culture complains how hard these games are. This is one of those “I walk uphill both ways” kinds of things. On top of that, he talks about some of the really annoying game breaking bugs he came across back during his youth. They would often be to the point where a gamer was stopped in his tracks not being able to progress any further in the game.
