When it starts to get cold and there are less and less seeds and bugs in the woods, birds get closer and closer to humans in search of food. Not that they do show up in gardens all year round, but somehow now they are more visible.
And they have a damn good reason too!
Multiple sunflower plants that my mum grows in a garden are mature and filled with delicious seeds. She doesn't pick them. She keeps the plants for the flowers only because she likes how they look.
Now that the giant heads and bright yellow petals have died, it's feast time! I can see dozens of birds flying in and out every day. I managed to recognize three types of Tits, sparrows and goldfinches. I am pretty sure there are other that pop in, but from a distance, they all look the same :)
Today I finally took the camera to the garden to catch some of them. I guess it was the Marsh Tit turn, as there were two or three constantly picking the seeds and flying away.
I tried to get as close as possible to get a good shot. I was hoping that the bushes I tried to hide behind were enough, but they did see me. They are very cautious little birdies and will not get too close if they feel any danger.
Aaaand she off..
I could see and hear them around, but they did not dare to come back. I moved a little further away and it was enough to make them feel safer again.
Soon after another one came to rob the sunflowers.

Great tits visit me once or twice a year, often in pairs, usually in October/November. They see crank open window (opportunity) and lush green inside (incentive), but once they get in, they can't get out. When I hear them, I just open balcony door and try to direct them there, but in the meantime they often ram the windows. At least on one occasion it sadly ended with fatality.

I remember once we had swallow getting in and we had the same problem getting her out. Never a Tit.

Sunflower farmers for sure :D
They also eat insects, so they are actually good. Just don't grow sunflowers :p

Great bird eating upside down, the photos are very well taken, they seem to like sunflowers. This bird looks a lot like a bird that lives near me called the chickadee. Thank you for sharing his photos, it allowed me to discover a new species of bird.
I think it's the same what we call a willow tit. Very similar to the Marsh one indeed :)

There is always some that manage to survive and sprout in spring. They are left to grow wherever they want and the cycle continues :)

An adorable bird and an excellent photographic document to observe it looking for food!...
Something similar happens here, in the rainy season the birds come less close because there are many flowers and fruits in the natural environment. But when the drought worsens, then they become regular visitors to our gardens in search of seeds and fruits... (And that's when we have to be very careful to keep our 7 cats inside the house) he he he :))

This is definitely my favourite of them all, with that judging look on her face hahaha... My friend it is very nice what you have managed to capture here, and yes, these little birds are not easy to photograph. The good thing is that having this so close you could try several times, but I think you hit the target the first time. This is all very impressive to me, bravo! ❤️

Greedy little thing indeed! Although you captured some gorgeous photos. Love that curious photo of her gazing straight at the camera. Like your mom I also plant sunflowers because I love them. But it would be nice if the gutsy birds showed some appreciation and shared just a few of the yummy seeds

There is no need of any artificial feeders, these sunflowers served them so well as a free bufet. And yes, the acrobatic performance is amazing.🙂
Haha yea.. they will not last long though. There is so many of them that before the winter comes they will be all empty.
Tits are so acrobatic. If I tried to eat anything upside down I'd fer sure get indigestion.

I am sure the birds were wondering why you were so curious about them. They just wanted to feast. The sunflower heads must have been a great treat for the birds. There are so many seeds there to enjoy.
