The Moon Eclipse 2019 (Red Moon)

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Hello!

I'm a bit late posting this, but so was my editing of these photos. I just forgot. :)

Vera woke me up at 6 in the morning and urged me to go and shoot the red moon. I tried telling her that with my equipment I would most likely get no clear images, and because the tripod is broken I was a bit reluctant to go out outside into a freezing -20°C outside from my warm bed just to freeze my hands off trying to shoot an elusive moon.

Anyhow I eventually got up and took the camera, put on the 75-300mm lens, and set the camera onto the broken tripod, then took the elevator down and walked on to the street to take the photo.

It was colder than I had imagined. I wanted to be in bed.

I had set the camera to shoot at 1/15s exposure, and while everyone advices one to shoot at F11, I knew it wouldn't cut it, because I wouldn't get any proper exposure with that (as the red moon is pretty dark), I had the aperture at F5.6.

The sensitivity setting was Dual-ISO, at 1600+6400.

Shot right at 7:15AM when the eclipse was at it's height.

I wonder if I could've managed to get a clearer shot if there were no light pollution from the street lights all around me. Anyway I'm quite amazed at how well I could clean it up in post. :D

Then when I got home, I noticed the eclipse had vaned, and there was a nice chunk of the moon missing like someone had chewed it off. I decided to take one last shot freehand through our bathroom window.

Shot at around 7:35 when the eclipse was vaning.

On this image I set the exposure to 1/200s (I have a steady hand!), aperture as F5.6, and sensitivity at Dual-ISO 1600+3200.

You can see both these images in full-scale here, or just by clicking on the images.

After shooting these, I grabbed a quick breakfast and took Miro to school, after which I took off to the gym and trained shoulder power under tutelage of @omsoc.

Btw. Leo made a curry dish today. He took the recipe out of a manga called Addicted to Curry. It was amazing! I think I'll let him make our dinners from now on.

Today was a bit too cold day for Ninnu. I wonder if we should buy her a new winter coat.

Anyway, that's it for today. I hope you liked the post.

See ya!

@gamer00,
I think Vero made the right choice by waked you up at the right time! I see that RED MOON and but honestly I will not go out at -20 C! But you did and we all could enjoy the photography of that wonderful moon that I have never seen in my country with that color!

Cheers~

I'm quite glad that I did eventually go. Must thank her for waking me up. :)

It is tough to get out in that weather! Welcome to my world lol. Those did clean up nicely!

Wonderful friend But, I did not really see it, I fell asleep and when I woke up I had already passed.

I really think you did a good job on the second photo. You should have showcased that one in the thumbnail! The color is spot-on and I like that you caught the shadowing just perfectly. I'm glad your wife got you up because you would have missed a perfectly great opportunity. Well done.

In hindsight, me too. :) Thank you for the compliments! (Both of them.)

It's always my pleasure!

The photo looks really nice and colorful and the moon is a complete full moon. Very nice and a high quality photo @gamer00

Second capture is looking more beautiful.

The second shot come so nicely and you really have a steady hand. At -20 C it is not that possible to have a steady hand. Good job done

Moon looks like a big ball just floating in the night sky.

Lots of movements here! What a busy morning! The blood moon looks awesome. I slept through it,only saw the yellow full moon!

Oh! Now you have a budding chef in your family!! Sushi and Thai food next!?

Thank you. I was disappointed at first, but after editing I kind of had to congratulate myself for not failing too badly. Generally shooting the moon is quite easy, but since it was so dim, I felt like I could never manage the task. And all that in -20°C!

Sushi and Thai food next!?

One can only hope. ;D

Beautiful captures taken by you of full red moon.

Awesome capture of moon . You take perfect shots.
