Herrrooo Dreamers,
Seems like we are caught in a Dandy-like loop with the once a week blogging.
QUICK OVERVIEW OF LAST WEEK'S DREAMIN'
RETRO FRIDAY :
BOOM! This is a commonly heard phrase from sinister1 when a current speedrunning goal has been busted. A new PB on our first run of the night for Chip 'N Dale : Rescue Rangers had us in a good mindset and clicking all night long; however, the grind was just beginning. The grind eventually turned my timing on one specific jump death in H to our "sticking" point for the evening.
Then sinister1 said, "Let's get this PB, and we can run a co-op run of Contra for the Dreamers." And that was all that was needed to create a laser-beam dedicated focus on our next run and the monster PB was had! We ended the night with a 9:46 which ended up being a near 6 second time save. Our next goal we have in sight is a 9:3X but we know new strats will have to come into play to be able to accomplish another 7 seconds of time save on such a short run.
The evening capped off with a fun-timed run of Contra with sinister1 before he took off for the evening and the rest of us rotated into part 2 of the evening and the Viewers' Choice winning Illusion of Gaia. Such a classic game that we will discuss more of next time.
STRESSED SATURDAY :
This was honestly a stress free night of Darkest Dungeon. I cannot remember a better streak than the one we had last week and especially with the Bloodmoon Difficulty in place it was quite exhilarating. Normally, I only have unfortunate news to report as our death count grew and our chances for success dwindled. However, we were able to
wipe out 3 bosses and walk away completely unscathed. We attempted to parlay our Bloodmoon success into a potential Necromancer% PB but that was where the good luck road halted.
SPEEDRUN SUNDAY :
Speedrun Sunday showcased a lot of much needed practice for the upcoming charity race against darkalexandr. I was constantly losing good runs to Slash due to poor muscle memory of the solo fight. As the night wore on I was constantly getting around the 23 minute mark if I lost Slash, but closer to 22 if I kept Slash corralled. I knew my only chance in the race would be to have a sub 22 pace going and keep Slash on lock-down to have a chance.
Eventually, we changed gears and back into our Mega ways. Mega Man X 100% was ran for the rest of the night as we sniffed another PB on multiple runs. Even finished with a run that was 3 seconds too slow that was once promising at 20+ seconds ahead. The Mega Man grind returns next Speedrun Sunday as many have been eagerly awaiting both MMX and Mega Man 2.
TURTLE POWER MONDAY :
I predicted what I was going to need to do to win this race and still managed to flub it up.
STATUS : ELIMINATED (3-2)
Congrats to darkalexandr for advancing to the best-of-3 losers' bracket championship with his solid victory over myself located here. I failed to contain Slash and kept alternating on which bosses I did really well and which ones I was sloppy on. Those mistakes were more than enough to give the #3 seed darkalexandr the cushion he needed to cruise to victory. The remaining bracket can be found here.
The rest of Turtle Power Mondays was epic as Dopostmann and myself battled for so many amazing PB paces as we search to improve our World Record in Co-op Any% Normal to a sub 20-minute time. Our sum of best improved another 4 seconds as we continually look for more efficient strats as each runs develops. I have been able to get the somersault-shoulder combo at a more than 50% execution clip which will eventually lead to some really good time save for us when we are both clicking.
Alas, we will chase after a new coveted time save on our next night of Turtle Power action.
ANIME NIGHT :
What a spectacular end to a silly, confounding, and uproarious anime serious.
SPOILER ALERT
"Never-ending Dandy. Baby" was the perfect end to Space Dandy and the Aloha Oe crew.
Dandy finally gets captured by Dr. Gel. Dr. Gel and Bea end up taking Dandy to the tower of the Gogol Empire Homeworld, where they decide to extract Pyonium energy from Dandy to complete an immensely powerful weapon. The weapon would be a akin to a massive doomsday satellite which possessed the power to gain access to other freaking dimensions.
Let's not forget Dandy's ol' rock buddy and secret Jaicro Empire Commander Johnny as he mounts an assault on the Gogol Empire. During this assuault Dandy's pals, QT, Meow, Scarlet and Honey rescue him by displaying impressive moves of their own to get to the tower in time.
SHOCKER ALERT!!!
Bea shoots Dr. Gel leaving him in a pool of his own ape blood to die. WHICH MEANS BEA IS A JAICRO EMPIRE SPY! Wait, that isn't the best part, instead he decides to keep the weapon for himself now that he has his hands on it. CRUNCH As Dr. Gel's dying moments are spent crushing Bea is his large ape-like mitts. As Dr. Gel lays their dying, he entrusts Dandy with his ship so that he can save the whole universe from total annihilation. Dandy then delivers the most Dandiest of punches to elimate the weapon, BUT the wave was so intense and destructive that everyone and everything was wiped from existence.
Dandy, is then left with his thoughts and a talking voice (the Narrator) who informs him that he has been chosen to be the next god, an omnipotent being of the whole universe. To which Dandy replies, "so wait, I won't have my physical body? Which means no boobies? Hell nah man, I am out!"
The Narrator exasperately claims that the universe will begin anew but without a god now that the one and only chosen, Space Dandy, had rejected the position! As the show and ship drift off into darkness, we are greeted with one more laughable scene between Dandy, and QT on the Aloha Oe.
