Get Right Back On That Surfboard

Mind Enhancing Morsels

It's Sunday and here I am again with a little well-being rumination for your consideration. I have just arrived home from three days in a gargantuan water park located in Kellogg, Idaho. It was so much fun to kick up my heels and run like a rampaging child beast from water attraction to water attraction with my kiddos. In fact, it is some behavior at one of those water attractions that inspired the little musing that I am going to share with you this evening.

One of the water park rides was The Flowrider, a giant perpetual wave that you can boogie board or "surf" on. My Hawaiian husband was quick to let me know that while the water attraction was cool, it was nothing like surfing in the ocean. I always like knowing things. Anyway, my son was determined to ride the perpetual wave.

The thing is, the Flowrider had a bit of a learning curve. We all had a blast boogie boarding on it, but:

My son longed to conquer the faux-surf

While my daughter and I raced each other on inner tubes in various water slides, my boy waited patiently in line. He got tips from some veteran surfers, and when he finally got his turn, bravely jumped aboard.

He landed on his flintlocks [1] over and over and over again.

Never one to be dissuaded, he kept at it. He was going to conquer the wave, and you know what, he eventually did!

Now here we are three days later, home safe and sound, with yours truly infinitely sore from climbing a million flights of stairs. I'm so proud of my boy for persevering when something was tough. He is a little beat up from his experience, but the confidence gained from sticking with it far outweighs a dodgy neck and bruised knees.

That said, I know as an adult there are days that I want to toss my responsibilities or not complete a task that is a challenge for me. When you are a grownup there are a million excuses that you can employ if you wish to not do something. I know that I am guilty of passing the surfboard on to someone else because the waves look too rough. The next time I want to go around a task that is big, or new, or frightening, I am going to think of my eleven year old son who exhibited a ton of determination in the face of one spill after another.

And on that positive note, goodnight and good thoughts to you all!!

[1] Flintlocks is Rambling Ron slang for one's derriere or backside.

And as always, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's NOW WITH FRESH CHLORINE SCENT iPhone.

Ain’t that the truth. Mom or Dad are not there to give us a What for to carry on with the task. Thankfully, life can be a parent of sorts to kick us into gear. Lol..

Life definitely likes to be an extreme parent now and then, for sure! Egads!

maybe this is the reason your son will getting more interested on how to become a propessional sorfboarder....

Well, by the factoring the surface area of his gargantuan feet alone I feel it helps him have an advantage, lol! Thanks for the lovely comment!

Hahaha...wonderful effect my dear friend @generikat
I think you are one of better mam in this platform...parents always helped and protect their kids...
Cheers~~~

Awe, I think you are one of the kindest people on this platform, thank you for the lovely words my friend!

What fun the water parks are. I ‘ll bet you all slept like babies that night. Great show of determination by your son. Just wait till he gets to Hawaii! I like the never give up metaphor. We should all remember his determination and never give up! 🐓🐓

Dogged determination is totally a great thing when trying to accomplish a new skill. I try to remember that when I am being a big whine bag, lol!

And you are so right, we slept like we were in a comas every night!

Congratulations to your son!

Patience, persistence, and perseverance... my "3-P's" of surfing.

Bring the boy to San Diego, and I'll take him out for reals... ;)

😄😇😄

@creatr

Oooh! I have some friends in Escondido that I plan to visit this year, I'm thinking that I have a friend we'll have to visit in San Diego as well!

I love the 3P's of surfing! They sound a lot like my three P's of farming 😉
