If we had to pay for every dream we had as kids, a lot of us will still be indebted today. Whenever I reminisce about childhood, I can't help but laugh about some unrealistic dreams I had. Aside from being a kid that understood nothing about life, dreaming was free and I can dream as much as I can.
Dreaming was so cheap that I can wish to become a footballer today and something else the next day. Many of us didn't really know what we wanted out of life until a certain age and despite me changing my dream profession every now and then, there was a particular one that was stuck in my head.
As a kid, I lived at Mafoluko Oshodi (somewhere very close to the airport) and watching aeroplanes fly over our building was fascinating. I was really interested in planes because it baffles me how an object as big as that would fly in the sky without flapping wings like birds would do. Being curious made me want to be a pilot and as I grew, I discovered that it was one of the cool and high-paying professions in the world.
Whenever I told my peers, they were always like Pilots don't live long, what the plane crashed and other silly things but I wasn't bothered. This dream of mine was so intoxicating that I started putting captain before my name and it even became a nickname for some friends who love the profession.
I was passionate about becoming a pilot and at that point, I told my parents about it. My dad agreed to send me to an aviation school but when the time came, he didn't for reasons best known to him. It would cost a lot and mom couldn't do it alone so I checked other ways to achieve this but couldn't find one.
My environment wasn't the type with many scholars and it wasn't the smartphone era so I just stayed alert for any opportunity that came my way.
I accompanied my mom to the bank at Muritala International Airport then and luckily for me, I meet a pilot. He was so respected by the bank staff and it made me crave more for the profession. I sneaked away from mom presence and found myself standing face-to-face with the pilot.
"Good morning, sir" I greeted him and he attended to me pretty well.
I asked how to become a pilot without going to aviation school and he told me that he studied piloting abroad. I felt sad because travelling out wasn't an option except a miracle happened.
He advised that I join the Nigeria Air Force and that was perfect. I told Mom about it and applying for Airforce through the Nigeria Defense Academy was affordable, the form was between 3-5k then so I picked it up when it was on.
I studied hard but didn't make the list when the result was out and I didn't give up. I wrote the exam three times before my mom's uncle who was in the force told me that NDA requires having a strong connection in the government or force. A lot of people in power have slots in each state and at the end, they might choose only five out of thousands of applicants.
I eventually gave up and accepted that I wasn't meant to be a pilot. I felt very sad because finding out about NDA gave me hope and it vanished suddenly. With this passion, I would bring one of the best pilots Nigeria has produced but life happens.
Although I didn't achieve the aim of flying around the world as a pilot I am doing that virtually. After all, I have been through in life, I eventually settled down to become a fish farmer and a writer even though I am not a professional yet.
Writing on different platforms since 2019 has taken me across the world and I have met a lot of people. I find so much comfort in writing and it doesn't make me regret much about not becoming a pilot because of how it has helped crossed borders virtually. Through Hive, I have met amazing people from the UK, USA, Pakistan, Spain, Indonesia, Australia and many more.
The feeling is different though, to be there physically is different from doing that virtually but I am happy doing what I am doing now which is what matters. Writing has given me wings to fly and being on Hive has taken my visit to other countries to another level.
I love that. I can see you did so much to achieve your dreams and it is sad the only way that could have worked turned out to be connection inclined, but looking at the bright side, you have a work you do.
Also, Hive has served as a platform where you got to fly to places beyond imaginations and that's cool.
I waltzed in through #dreemport for I am an awesomely made #dreemer. A #dreemerforlife.
I would have felt terrible if I never tried but I did my best which is one of the reasons why I don't regret till date and with hive giving me wings, I am still on track with my dreams.
Thanks.
Well knowing you tried is a big heads up. Not everything will go our ways as God has a better plan for us.
You're welcome.
Hehehe 😁 you see this life eh it can be funny sometimes, maybe if you have become a pilot you wouldn't have known anything about blogging buh that is where life want you to be.
We all have dreams but few people were able to get to make their dream come true.
Hmmmm, I might not have met some amazing people. There are a lot of differences between the jobs and they both have one of my favourite goals in common.
Life happens and what matters is staying happy.
Pilot... I also wanted to be a pilot at one time. Although this was not for long. For you, living close to an airport would have been really cool. But then, didn't the noise disturb you???
As a kid, the noise didn't mean anything to us. We always ran outside to see which airline it was but I am sure it was a huge disturbance for adults.
We were only excited about seeing planes flying over our roof.

That's one thing. There are certain things one can not do without connection, unless God does a miracle.
It must have been frustrating.
I agree with you on the point you've made about the hive, through it, we have been able to meet a lot of people around the world. It's still possible to meet them physically, too.
We sure had a lot of unrealistic dreams. God always has the best plans for us.
#dreemerforlife #dreemport
Nigeria has built a system on connection, it is either you know someone or lose opportunities to people who are hight connected. It's really frustrating and that's why a lot of people who are not capable are holding important positions in the country.
I imagine that must have been quite sad for you at the time, having to give up on your dream like that 😔 but I do believe that as doors close, others open... and we just need to keep positioning ourselves so that we are in the best possible place for when the light is shone on us. How is your fish business going? I remember seeing the pictures some time back of the large pools you set up. I know you had a couple of mishaps at one point. Has everything settled now?
I dropped in from Dreemport this evening.
#dreemerforlife
Thanks for the word of encouragement. One has to stay alert for other opportunities because there will be many more and dwelling in the past will only prevent us from seeing the good ahead.
The farm is going on well although I had to take a few month break because of road construction in my community. The damage was a long time, added two new ponds after that time.
Wow what a journey.
Nigeria has killed a lot of dreams than Corona virus, I'm sure you tried your best but what will be will be. Your dream of becoming a pilot might not come true but what matters in life is that we live a fulfilled life, if being a fish farmer and a writer allows you to achieve that, then that is all that matters

Lolz, you mean the country is deadlier than Corona? This one is loud ooo and regardless of what direction life takes us, we must ensure that we get the best out of it...
I think the highlight of this for me was you talking about how you've gotten to travel to other parts of the world but this time, not as an actual airplane pilot but a pilot of the web3 world. I know it's still possible to get that dream but I'm happy that at the same time, you're forging your own path. And that's what matters you know, so all the best to you dearest Georgie.🤗
You got my point very clearly, life sailed my boat in a different direction and I made good use of the new course.
Thanks for the visit dearie.
You forgot the Philippines 🤭
That's amazing how you think of it @george-dee. To more countries to visit via Hive. Me too, I haven't been on my plane myself Haha I just always take the bus and ferry.
💛Made my way here through #dreemport. #Dreemerforlife
The Philippines has a special place in my heart, I have met amazing people from there through blogging and I cherish them a lot.
We will definitely get on a plane someday and one of my destinations will be the Philippines
You're very welcome @george-dee and hope you will come to that moment victoriously.
I'm glad you find happiness in what you are doing now, that is what matters most. Thanks for sharing.
That's what matters, finding happiness in whatever we are doing at the moment.
Nothing about life is fair and we just have to adapt when things are beyond our control.
Thanks for the visit...
It is so sad that many dreams have to die witness a sudden death because of the high rate of corruption in the country. Many unqualified people find themselves in prominent positions because of the connections they have.
A lot of dreams died even before they started, corruption has eaten deep into our system and it is affecting a lot.
My goal is to make sure nothing prevent my children from fulfilling their dreams, let's hope for the best.
Wow. I love your positive mindset. It's actually disheartening finding out that there's a lot of rigging going on in the NDA. Well, in this country a lot of things are rigged.
I'm glad that you didn't let it weigh you down and instead you put that passion into something else that worked for you.
Yeah, as promising as NDA was, a lot is happening there.
I had to divert the energy into different stuffs and there is no regret whatsoever.
Chaiii...it's so sad seeing our dream dieing off like that. My prayer is that our children will have all the resources they need to go for what their heart yearns for
But I am happy that you are fulfilled in where you found yourself today 😊
Honestly, that's the point. I don't pray my kids go through anything I went through and to achieve that, I must work hard now to make their dreams come true.
I pray that nothing in life will deprive us from doing the needful fo our children.
Cheers to a new week maaaama 🫂
hehehe,
if wishes were horse, even beggars will ride
at one point in life i had so many dreams and writing wasnt one of them but i was good at telling story and drawing, who knew i would pen some of them down
#dreemport
I didn't see myself writing either but life has it way of putting us where we really belong and it is left for us to find happiness in whatever we are doing.
yeah yeah.
Wow! A big dream.
The Nigerian air force would have been better but it takes strong connection to get in.
Very interesting.
That's right, it would have been a very good option but I don't know anyone at the top so I just had to bow out at some point.
It is well.
A country like Nigeria can make you pursue other kinds of dream.
As least you tried to get there, that I admire
#dreemerforlife #dreemport
Lolz, that's one thing about Nigeria but regardless we don't give up and dreaming over and over again until we find happiness.
Thanks for the visit.
Yes our dream used to change in everyday in the childhood times because in the time we easily manipulated or easily want to be the thing which we see in that time.
You want to be a pilot but I think the destiny decided something else and the good thing is you are not regarding for it. After reading this post remember me about one of my student who wanted to be a pilot also.
!PIZZA
We wanted to become multiple things as a time but life had it plan as well. Even though many of us had to do something else, some of us are happy with what we are doing today.
wow, this is beautiful and exceptional, your fighting spirit is one of a kind bro and i am happy to see how far you have come even without achieving your dream job, the bitter truth about life is that connection is needed in most areas of life but to those who don't have that, it is a sorry case, indeed hive hs given you wings to fly and i enjoyed the part where you snuck away from your mum to ask questions, it was brave of you, well-done bro and i am happy you re doing that which you love...
I was a fearless kid, I stopped Navy, army on the road just to ask questions. I was very young and they didn't see it as a big deal because of my age.
Nigeria really doesn't support dreams, everyone has to fight for what they want and in situations when you are powerless, it becomes a big issue.
Thanks for the visit.
You are welcome bro, no doubt
