Greetings Parents, this topic is really sensitive but it is really important to know what are the probable cause of doing abuse to the children. We all know that there are lots of news in social media, television, radios and newspapers about child abuse and to us, we don't really want happen to our child.

There are at least three kinds of abuse;

  • Harsh and severe punishment - beating up or inflicting physical pain- which may result in irreparable bodily harm to the child. This kinds includes verbal abuse, cursing the child, browbeating, telling him he is useless or lazy or stupid which may inflict deep-seated psychological damage.
  • Deprivation - it is the duty of Parents to love and care for their child, to see to his physical needs, and to shield him from harm. Neglecting any of these duties may result in stunted growth or abnormal development, malnutrition, Ill-health or physical injury.
  • Sexual Abuse- The child is victimized by sexual perversion known as pedophilia.

Abuse children are often " Silent " victims. Very young children do not know if and when they are being mistreated, or abused and hence; do not complain. They may believe that what they are undergoing is normal. Or perhaps, they sense that no one will help them anyway.

There are signs about the child's victim of abuse and it includes in the following;

  • Evidences of physical violence- cuts and bruises, sprains, fractures, contusions, swelling in any part of the body.
  • Gross underweight or emaciation, symptoms of malnutrition.
  • An obvious lack of medical attention- he is covered by sores, his teeth are bad.

Probable cause of Child Abuse:

  • The Parents or Guardians were victims of child abuse. Victims of parental abuse become harsh and cruel adults who hurt their own children. These parents could be taking out on their children resentments they have long repressed.
  • A Parent or guardian under severe financial problem or emotional strain may take out his frustration on the child. The child's smallest mistake brings on severe physical punishments.
  • Parents or Guardians who expect too much of the child. The parents become angry or disappointed when the child fails come up expectations. So the child is punished for failing to do what he is unable to do.

What can be Done:

  1. Ascertain that the child is indeed a victim of child abuse. Interview family members, teachers, and other witnesses. A doctor's opinions is very important.
  2. Seek help of agencies or individuals who can give the child the proper psychological, medical and legal aid. The cooperation of the entire family or household is necessary to effectively solve the problem.
  3. If the child's life is endangered, take him away from the family. But if the parents or guardians are still open and reasonable, the child can remain with his folks. Help the family find way to curb the abuse.
  4. Help the parents with their social and emotional problems. Show them the ways anger can be rechanneled into less harmful actions.
  5. If your advice has not been effective, consult a doctor or psychologist.
