I have posted before about my first Maple Leaf which was one from last year (2023) and about some others that I got from eBay in 2022. And when I got the one from this year 2024, we can see an interesting chronology of what happened with the UK royalty that looked with the Observe. The maple leaf bullion is the main bullion symbol from Canada and it is minted every year. The design is simple: A maple leaf in the reverse, which is also in our flag and the royalty leader in the coin obverse. The 2022 had the Queen Elizabeth III, but since she died in 2022. They still minted her in the 2023 bullion but with the date of the start and end of her reign. Now the 2024 one is the first one minted with King Charles III. I decided that I was going to collect this bullion every year for the obvious reason of living in the country, but it is an interesting thing to see and remember sometime in the future about this chronology.
I came to this country in 2017, with very little feedback about its history. In Brazil, we have a bit about world history, but mostly we study more about the US independence and not much about Canada or Mexico. Interesting right? Anyway one of the first things that surprised me is that Canada was still connected somehow to the UK through the Common Wealth, despite being independent since 1867 when the Canada Confederation was formed. But different from the US, it was an independence with the UK's support. Australia and some other countries of the commonwealth still use the United Kingdom's flag in their flag. But Canada doesn't. And what is the role of the UK queen/king in the country's mandate? Nowadays just as figurative. In every political instance, some people represent the king/queen in the parliament, but those are mostly referred to by the leader of the parliament. In theory, the queen/king only approves the person. For the federal government, we have the Governor General and in the provinces, we have the Lieutenant Governor.
In my point of view, it is a type of thing that I respect, but it would be nice for the country and move away from this symbol. Every country needs to create its identity and stay away from old symbols that represent some sort of dependency. Like I said in other posts, I love using national symbols, like animals/plants and important sights. Australia is a great example of the Kookaburra and every year they mint the animal doing a different thing so every year we have a new surprise about it.
The design of the 2024 is very similar to the 2023, except for the face of the new king. But you can see all the safety details that are in the 2023 coin. We can see the small maple leaf near the "Oz" wording and the texture. That's one thing that I enjoy in this coin is the radian lines that create an interesting texture to the coin.
I am a bit excited to see where my collection will head now, I am keeping an eye on eBay but nothing with a nice cost/benefit is available lately. I am between two options, buying two coins that were on my list from a dealer called Royalbull from Ontario, but the problem is that they have a fixed shipping rate of 25 CAD which is a bit too much. Or I can stick with TD and do more shopping there until I reach 100 CAD so I can get free shipping, things are interesting there but they weren't in my top 10 wishlist, but still, they are good to have in a collection. It looks like that in either case I will need to hold a bit and save some money so I can spend in more than one coin for this next purchase.

E quando recebi a deste ano, 2024, podemos ver uma interessante cronologia do que aconteceu com a realeza do Reino Unido que se reflete no Observável. A Maple Leaf bullion é o principal símbolo de bullion do Canadá e é cunhada todos os anos. O design é simples: Uma folha de bordo no reverso, que também está em nossa bandeira, e a líder da realeza no anverso da moeda. A de 2022 tinha a Rainha Elizabeth III, mas como ela morreu em 2022, ela ainda foi cunhada no bullion de 2023, mas com a data do início e do fim de seu reinado. Agora, a de 2024 é a primeira cunhada com o Rei Carlos III. Decidi que iria colecionar este bullion todos os anos pelo motivo óbvio de viver no país, mas é algo interessante de se ver e lembrar em algum momento futuro sobre esta cronologia.
Cheguei a este país em 2017, com muito pouco conhecimento sobre sua história. No Brasil, temos um pouco sobre história mundial, mas principalmente estudamos mais sobre a independência dos EUA e não muito sobre o Canadá ou o México. Interessante, não é? De qualquer forma, uma das primeiras coisas que me surpreenderam é que o Canadá ainda estava de alguma forma conectado ao Reino Unido através da Comunidade das Nações, apesar de ser independente desde 1867, quando a Confederação do Canadá foi formada. Mas diferente dos EUA, foi uma independência com o apoio do Reino Unido. Austrália e alguns outros países da comunidade ainda usam a bandeira do Reino Unido em sua bandeira, mas o Canadá não. E qual é o papel da rainha/ rei do Reino Unido no mandato do país? Atualmente, apenas figurativo. Em todas as instâncias políticas, algumas pessoas representam o rei/rainha no parlamento, mas esses são na maioria das vezes referidos pelo líder do parlamento. Na teoria, a rainha/ rei apenas aprova a pessoa. Para o governo federal, temos o Governador Geral e nas províncias, temos o Vice-Governador.
Na minha opinião, é um tipo de coisa que eu respeito, mas seria bom para o país se afastar desse símbolo. Todo país precisa criar sua identidade e se afastar de símbolos antigos que representam algum tipo de dependência. Como eu disse em outros posts, adoro usar símbolos nacionais, como animais/plantas e pontos turísticos importantes. A Austrália é um ótimo exemplo do Kookaburra e todos os anos eles cunham o animal fazendo algo diferente, então todos os anos temos uma nova surpresa sobre isso.
O design de 2024 é muito semelhante ao de 2023, exceto pelo rosto do novo rei. Mas você pode ver todos os detalhes de segurança que estão na moeda de 2023. Podemos ver a pequena folha de bordo perto da palavra "Oz" e a textura. Isso é uma coisa que eu gosto nesta moeda são as linhas radiais que criam uma textura interessante na moeda.
Estou um pouco animado para ver para onde minha coleção irá agora, estou de olho no eBay, mas nada com um bom custo/benefício está disponível ultimamente. Estou entre duas opções, comprar duas moedas que estavam na minha lista de um revendedor chamado Royalbull de Ontário, mas o problema é que eles têm uma taxa de envio fixa de 25 CAD, o que é um pouco demais. Ou posso continuar com o TD e fazer mais compras lá até chegar a 100 CAD para poder obter frete grátis, as coisas estão interessantes lá, mas não estavam na minha lista dos 10 principais desejos, mas ainda assim, são boas de ter em uma coleção. Parece que, em qualquer caso, vou precisar esperar um pouco e economizar algum dinheiro para poder gastar em mais de uma moeda nesta próxima compra.
