It started as something small.
Just a slight discomfort.
Nothing serious.
The kind of thing you notice for a second and then forget about.
I told myself it was probably nothing.
The next day, it was still there.
Not worse.
Not better.
Just there.
A quiet reminder that something wasn't quite right.
A few people noticed.
“Maybe you should check it.”
I nodded.
“Yeah, I will.”
But I didn't.
Life was busy.
There were other things to think about.
Besides, if it was really important, it would be obvious... right?
Weeks passed.
The discomfort became familiar.
Not enough to stop me.
Just enough to complain about occasionally.
Then one morning, it changed.
Suddenly.
The thing I had been comfortably ignoring refused to be ignored anymore.
Everything that was easy before became difficult.
Everything I had postponed came rushing back at once.
And as I sat there dealing with a problem that had grown far beyond what it used to be, I couldn't stop thinking about the first day.
Back when it was small.
Back when fixing it would have taken almost no effort at all.
