Today's post is about the confluence of 2 famous rivers, this trip was done on 23 December 2024. Then I went to Kartik Swami temple by scooter. This place is known as Devprayag and here Bhagirathi and Alaknanda meet, after this confluence the river flowing further is named Ganga. In India, the river Ganga is called Maa Ganga River.

I leave home on a scooter with @sara.negi. We have to go to visit Kartik Swami and Tungnath temple. On the way we have to pass through religious places like Rishikesh, Devprayag, Srinagar and Rudraprayag, as we came to these places while riding on the scooter, we kept visiting these places and imbibed the religiousness of this place within us.

The reason for Devprayag being famous is that two rivers meet here, one river comes from Badrinath temple and the other river comes from Gaumukh. After parking our scooter on the roadside, we started walking towards Sangam. We had to go down about a kilometer from the road where there were many stairs. On the way, we came across Devprayag market, Raghunath temple and after reaching the river bank, we saw Maa Ganga's temple and Sangam.

In the photos, you can see that the river coming from the right whose water is of tarnished color is Alaknanda and the river coming from the left whose water is of green color is Bhagirathi. According to Hindu religious belief, a person attains salvation by taking bath at this place and all sins are washed away by taking bath here. After taking bath here, it is said that even a sinful person can start a new clean life and take himself under the shelter of God.

It is said about the temple of Lord Ram present here that when Ram killed Ravan, Ram came here to do penance. It is said that Ravan was a Brahmin and if you kill a Brahmin, you are declared a sinner, so Ram came here and repented for his sins and stayed here for many years and did penance. Inspired by this incident, a temple of Lord Ram has also been built here.

Devprayag does not look like a very big town from a distance, but the population here is 51482, which is quite high for this small place. After going to the confluence, I also took blessings from Maa Ganga with folded hands. After spending about one and a half hours here, we decided to move ahead. Starting from Dehradun, we cover a distance of 109 km to Devprayag and it took us about two and a half hours to cover this distance.

Today's journey ends here, I will come back with information about some other place. I hope you liked this confluence of Himalayan religious rivers. See you in the next post, until then stay happy and keep doing what you like. Har Har Mahadev
