Hunter's comment

As an amateur radio ("ham") operator (license callsign W3DTV) one of the legal privaleges I have is that I can build and operate my own broadcasting equipment.

Faraday is a wireless digital platform for amateur radio operators such as myself. Faraday is open source software and open hardware to encourage experimentation and use of digital amateur radio technology.

Really?.. so I can be a broadcaster with this simple tool here. Or I don't get it?

Sorry. I thought my description was clear but if you don't understand I'll try to help you..

As the faradayrf.com site states, "...Faraday is currently only intended for use under FCC Part 97...".

In the United States the 33 cm band is one of the parts of the radio spectrum reserved for amateur radio operator use. 33 cm is already used for data transmission and the 33 cm band is allocated for every class of amateur radio license granted by the FCC.

The Faraday platform provides a cheap alternative for a clear data transceiver as opposed to buying a commercial transceiver because the hardware, software and firmware are all open source.

I suspect the "currently only intended" means the Faraday platform hopes that the open spectrum movement will be successful and that the FCC will eventually change the law so that a portion of the radio spectrum becomes unlicensed.

Of course, if you are a maker or hobbyist and don't have an amateur radio license it is legal to experiment as long as you use a dummy antenna on the Farady's output.

Wow... This is incisive. Thanks

Congratulations!
