For details about what are important considerations when buying a student's laptop, please see this post: https://steemit.com/technology/@hwtrendsetter/thins-you-need-to-keep-in-mind-while-looking-for-a-student-s-laptop

HP Pavilion 14 399€
The cheapest way to get you through the full day of classes without sacrificing performance to the point of no longer being usable.

  1. Battery life
7 hours of battery life - that's the reason to get this laptop. There are plenty of sub-400€ laptops with similar specs, but their battery life is not quite as good as this.
  2. Ports
All recommended ports are here. headphone-microphone jack, type A USB, type C USB and HDMI.
  3. High quality screen
Reasonable quality anti-glare WLED display. It lacks Full HD resolution, but at this size and price, it's still a very good compromise.
  4. Size and weight
336 x 235 x19 mm, 1.58 kg. Not quite as thin or light as more premium laptops, but still very usable.
  5. Operating system
Comes with pre-installed Windows 10 Home.
  6. Performance is not mind-blowing. Standard 7th generation Intel Core i3 with Intel HD Graphics 620. You can play e-sports games like Overwatch or CS GO on Medium settings, but demanding games like Witcher 3 won't run at all. Computing programs will run just fine, thanks to modern architecture, but sometimes you will need to be more patient than your colleagues using 8th gen processors.

Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 13 580€
All the features of premium thin and light laptops (at half the price).

  1. Battery life
7 hours of battery life. 1-2 hours shorter than many 1000€+ premium models, but good enough for a full day on campus
  2. Ports
All recommended ports except the SD card reader (if the situation gets out of control, you can always use your phone as a card reader)
  3. High quality screen
High quality Full HD IPS display, made by Sharp (LQ133M1JW15) and protected by a layer of scratch-resistant sapphire glass
  4. Size and weight
309 x 211 x 15 mm, 1.3 kg. About the size and weight of other premium thin and light laptops like Asus ZenBook 13 or HP Envy 13.
  5. Operating system
All versions come with legal Windows 10 out of the box. See this instruction if you have problems with switching Windows to English:
    https://c.mi.com/thread-375483-1-0.html
  6. On top of that we get very capable performance - 8th generation quad-core i5 (easily outperforming most 7th gen i7 processors thanks to 2 additional cores) with Nvidia MX150 (that outperforms last gen gaming card GTX 950M). In other words it will run you Witcher 3 on high settings, 30 FPS in HD 720p resolution. And will make a light work of any computing programs.

(look at Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 13 8/256GB GEFORCE MX150 section; prices change constantly so watch out, currently the best offer is from Gearbest for 580€ with free priority shipping)

Asus Zephyrus 1999€
If studying is just a disturbance from your gaming career, and you were forced to leave your desktop battle station at home. Or if you really need a lot of processing power in portable format (heavy video-rendering related production for example)

  1. Battery life
2.5-3 hours of battery life - will get you through those two classes you were forced to attend.
  2. Ports
Not only all recommended ports are there, but you also get a thunderbolt (for 10 Gbit network speeds, or connecting even more powerful graphics card in the future)
  3. High quality screen
Pretty much as good as it gets for gaming. Anti-glare IPS panel with 144 Hz refresh rate (144 frames per second can be displayed), Nvidia G-Sync for eliminating screen tearing, 178-degree viewing angles. As for educational value, well you can see presentations better during group studies.
  4. Size and weight
149 x 103 x 18 mm, 2.1 kg. As thin and light as it gets for gaming laptops. Screen size is bigger than recommended 14 inches, but given it's gaming nature, it's still pretty small..
  5. Operating system
Comes with pre-installed Windows 10 Home.
  6. You obviously don't need to worry about the performance in any situation. That's not only one of the best graphics cards on the market, but also one of the best processors. Those 12 threads with 4.1 GHz turbo will leave you wondering which task was demanding on your hardware, and which wasn't. And regarding the price, yes it's not necessarily a budget laptop. You can get laptops with slightly worse GTX 1060 at half the price. But they will be heavy, noisy, and screaming 'I'm not professional'. So if portable power is what you need, Zephyrus is the way to go.
