It's another week, another blog! The summer continues here in the Philippines. The most popular activity to do during summer is going to the beach. Cebu is known for its beautiful islands and resorts. Even on the rainy season, local and foreign tourists still swarm the tourist destinations because there are still some days that are Sunny. This time, I am bringing you to our Sumilon Sand Bar day trip.
Sumilon Island also known as the Sumilon Sand Bar is one of the majestic & exotic Islands in the Queen City of the South. It is located in the Southern part of Cebu specifically in Oslob. It takes almost 4 hours by bus or private car from the City proper. The location is very accessible since it is just a long the highway road.
If you are planning to take the tour packages, there are travel agencies which also offer a south tour including the Sumilon in the travel destination list. However, I would recommend Do It Yourself (DIY) trip because you will get time freedom for your travel. You will be able to visit the places you find most interesting and you don't get pressured with the limited time given by your tour guide.
I must say that Sumilon is truly a gem of Cebu Island as I personally find it as the most beautiful beach in the south. It's a well-maintained area having crystal-clear water and a white sand bar. Some people may find it a bit expensive to go there since you need to ride a boat to go to the sand bar which would cost 1,500.00 - 2,000.00 pesos per person. The area isn't that big so expect that it's not that good to visit during Holidays or weekends especially if you are after having good photos.
They have available wooden benches in the islet where you can put your things and food. It's a must to bring whatever you think is necessary such as enough food, water, and sunscreen. They also have comfort rooms where you can give donations for its maintenance.
In spite of being a bit commercialized, I find it reasonable since it's not that easy to maintain such a beautiful paradise and the view is worth more than what we pay for.
If you are taking the bus from South Bus Terminal in Cebu, take the ride going to Oslob then alight off at Bancogon Port. From there, you join the ride going to Sumilon sand bar. The bus fare only costs 160-200 pesos ( approximately 4.00 US Dollars) one way. You don't have to worry about where to eat since there are a few affordable eateries and restaurants in the area.
**I would suggest to go to Sumilon at earliest time **before lunch so it wouldn't be that scorching hot yet and you can still go to other tourist spots afterward. There's a popular waterfall nearby called Tumalog Falls. You can wash yourself with fresh water at the falls after spending time on the Island.
That's basically it, I hope you liked this episode and I hope to interact with you in the comment section below. Everyone's glad to hear the stories of yours!
