Hello everyone, and especially the SurfHive Community! It's Jasper, the musical-surfer dad from Cape Town in South Africa.
My little girl is potty-training and the house is busy! My wife was kind enough to say I should escape for a bit and have a paddle. A reef I often surf was looking a bit small and onshore to be fun, but I noticed the shorebreak on the beach was looking possible for a change.
The waves often look okay here next to the reef. The main problem is that in most conditions, there is a hectic rip current that takes you into the middle of the beach away from where you want to be.
On this day (yesterday) for some reason, the mix of low tide, small swell and soft onshore wind added up to the rip current being strangely nearly non-existent and it was easy to stay more or less where you wanted to be...
The ocean is such a weird, moody and changeable place, but at a time where I needed a user-friendly little bit of fun, it decided to have pity on me! (Thanks)
Mostly lefts, I often found myself having to bail before I would endanger swimmers in the shallows...
It was possible to go right, but there was a rock-shelf to look out for in the middle of the beach!
This was the only other guy out - he appeared to be one of the lifeguards, and even had a whistle around his neck to communicate with the lifeguards on the beach - they would usually be more busy at this beach when the rip current is stronger, because the only sandy place to swim between the surfable reef and a rockshelf, is exactly where the rip usually starts heading diagonally out to sea!
And there he goes - it's hard to believe this is just a suburb of the greater city! This picture makes it look more like one of the lovely smaller Holiday villages a couple of hours away instead! I'm very lucky to live here!
There's a prediction for swell to arrive tomorrow - let's see if I can find the time to get out there!

Olá a todos, e especialmente à Comunidade SurfHive! É Jasper, o pai surfista musical da Cidade do Cabo, na África do Sul.
Minha filhinha está treinando para usar o penico e a casa está ocupada! Minha esposa teve a gentileza de dizer que eu deveria fugir um pouco e remar. Um recife que costumo surfar parecia um pouco pequeno e em terra para ser divertido, mas notei que o litoral na praia parecia possível, para variar.
As ondas muitas vezes parecem boas aqui perto do recife. O principal problema é que, na maioria das condições, há uma corrente de retorno agitada que o leva para o meio da praia, longe de onde você deseja estar.
Neste dia (ontem), por algum motivo, a mistura de maré baixa, pequenas ondas e vento suave em terra fez com que a corrente de retorno fosse estranhamente quase inexistente e foi fácil ficar mais ou menos onde você queria estar. .
O oceano é um lugar tão estranho, temperamental e mutável, mas numa altura em que eu precisava de um pouco de diversão fácil de usar, ele decidiu ter pena de mim! (Obrigado)
Principalmente para a esquerda, muitas vezes me vi tendo que desistir antes de colocar os nadadores em risco em águas rasas...
Era possível ir para a direita, mas havia uma plataforma rochosa para se observar no meio da praia!
Este era o único outro cara fora - ele parecia ser um dos salva-vidas, e até tinha um apito pendurado no pescoço para se comunicar com os salva-vidas na praia - eles normalmente estariam mais ocupados nesta praia quando a correnteza é mais forte , porque o único lugar arenoso para nadar entre o recife surfável e uma plataforma rochosa, é exatamente onde o rasgo geralmente começa indo diagonalmente para o mar!
E lá vai ele - é difícil acreditar que este é apenas um subúrbio da grande cidade! Esta imagem faz com que pareça mais um dos encantadores vilarejos de férias a algumas horas de distância! Tenho muita sorte de morar aqui!
Há previsão de que o swell chegue amanhã - vamos ver se encontro tempo para chegar lá!

Did you notice that the other surfer was black? He was very good too! There are a lot of black people getting into surfing in this part of Cape Town which is wonderful to see... It used to be a very "white" past time!
