Hello everybody on Hive and especially the SurfHive community! It's Jasper the surfing-musician Dad from Cape Town in South Africa!
Easter Friday is a public holiday in South Africa... time to go surfing... the waves were ridiculously small but beggars (ie. working dads) can't be choosers!

At least the tiny waves were really, really long...
It even rained while I was out there. People usually seem surprised that we surf when it rains... but truth is, unless the rain comes with strong winds to ruin the shape of the waves... well... then we were going to get wet anyway you know? Hahaha!
Another truth is that the sea temperature is pretty set. It doesn't change fast... A bit of rain isn't going to cool the sea down. In fact, on a rainy day, the sea might even feel quite warm in comparison to the atmosphere... until you have to get out and change back into your clothes!
I do wonder if this day of rain is supposed to be the first little cold front to signify that winter is coming to the Southern Hemisphere... some of the trees are starting to go an Autumn-orange.
I hope Autumn is here! It is the best time in Cape Town, where you start to get swell from storms far South in the roaring 40 latitudes, but usually without the accompanying bad weather in Cape Town itself! Usually the summer pumping winds calm down as well... so you can get a beautiful sunny, but not stinking hot, day... with medium sized, high quality groundswell, with soft winds making those waves all glassy! Heaven!
When winter comes itself, it will mean having a bottle of cheap sherry (Old Brown Sherry / OB's) in the car to help warm up - but it's certainly hardly ever cold enough to stop surfing! The wave would have to freeze first - and then we'd probably just skate all over it anyway!
Hahaha - here's to Autumn and Winter! Goodbye Bummer, sorry... I meant Goodbye Summer!
THE END
Awesome bro, is that Muizenberg? Being born and raised in CT, I have a great appreciation for the beaches of the Cape. I moved to Garden Route, where I found some more epic beaches hehehe.
Yes! This is Muizenberg close to the rivermouth away from the crowd. Surfing has become very popular in the corner since Covid!
Yes, I have seen your lovely posts about the Garden Route! On a good year I get up there maybe twice and get to surf completely alone!
Epic surfing, well done Jasper.
Never learned to board surf, always in the water when young, still enjoy watching those who do enjoy the sport. One would think with full moon the sea would have offered bigger waves, Oh well till next time!
