Computer software training is crucial. Understanding how to click a mouse or tap a keyboard is just not enough sometimes. Even for folks who are utilizing a computer for basic functionality such as email or word processing, need to have a basic understanding of the functionality of the operating system (OS) and applications like those that are for word processing and email.

Unfortunately, without some kind of computer software training, improved knowledge and efficiency in basic computer functionality and navigation are never attained and often lead to a great deal of frustration on the user's part.

All this said, let's take some time to view some different types of computer software training available to a computer user like you.

Hands-on Computer Software Training

A hands-on method of computer software training is the primary form of training that is used. Since hands-on is the most popular, there are a few different paths that this specific form of training can take.

One path for the hands-on approach will utilize a coach or tutor. Having a personal coach or tutor is the most direct, and oftentimes, most effective path for hands-on training. However, it can also be expensive. Hands-on computer software training that is provided by coaches or tutors is almost always charged by the hour. But, the advantage is that you will receive one on one training and attention from the tutor.

local community college or university
Local community college or university is a prime spot for hands-on computer software training.

After the personal coaching form of hands-on training, the other popular method is to take a class at the local community college or university. Often these classes are conducted after hours for adults and kids. In fact, they often have classes specifically focused on teaching senior citizens and children. These classes are most often put on by civic clubs, local schools or computer clubs. These classes are sometimes free of charge or at a very minimal charge and taught by volunteers.

This form of hands-on training sounds like a really sweet deal, and it is. However, these free or very cheap classes will sometimes come with a sales pitch of some kind. When they do it is usually something harmless like attempting to sell you on another class, book, membership, etc.

new computer tutorials
The tutorials that come with a new computer are a great form of computer training.

There is a very cheap, actually free, and very simple form of training that is often overlooked. This simple and free form of computer software training is easily attained with almost any brand new computer you purchase.

When a new computer is purchased, the computer usually comes with instructions and tutorials already installed, along with helpful functions. These are almost always easily accessed from shortcuts on your desktop or by finding a question mark in the menu somewhere when you open an application. It can also be as simple as displaying the word "help" in the menu.

From these shortcuts, question marks and "help" a plethora of information and tutorials await. These internal features are a computer software training course all by themselves.

Used to be that when you purchased a computer it would often come with physical software manuals. Now the software comes with the manual and help files already available within the software itself when it is installed. There is usually always an introduction training file or tutorial for all installed software. At a minimum you should take time to read or view it.

online forums
Online forums are a great place to find some free computer software training.

One last form of computer software training that is available comes from online support forums. These forums are often administered and moderated by computer software training experts with years of experience under their belt.

These forums will have many topics that are being discussed or have been discussed in the past. A quick search will often find you some of the answers that you need. Ensure you search before asking in the forum though as some of the forum regulars can be harsh if you do not and the question has already been answered before.
